Mary
Doss
April 3, 1930 – October 1, 2020
Mary Gerdes Berryman Doss passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the age of 90. She was born on April 3, 1930 in Houston, Texas to Robert and Ethel Berryman and graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston. In 1949, Mary wed her sweetheart, David Lay Doss, and together they embarked on a remarkable life and marriage that would endure for more than 67 wonderful years. Early in their marriage, Mary worked for Exxon (Humble Oil at that time) for over a decade before she put her career on pause to start a family, becoming a full-time devoted housewife and loving mother to her three children. Never one to sit idle, after raising her family Mary returned to college complete her degree of Bachelor of Science from Central State University in Oklahoma. Upon her return to Texas, Mary resumed her career with Exxon which she had put on hold for over 25 years.
After retiring from her career at Exxon, Mary pursued her dream of becoming an interior designer, sharing her passion and talent with many clients, family members and friends to help them design beautiful home interiors. Mary's most passionate interest of all, however, was spending time with her family that she so deeply loved and cherished. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and family matriarch who always gave selflessly and generously to others and she will be greatly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband David, as well as her brothers Robert Jr. ("Bobby"), Joseph ("Joe") and William ("Bill"). She is survived by her children David Jr. (Julie), Joe (Pinko), Shelley Riehl (John) and her three precious grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece Mary Berryman Denney (Richard) and nephew Robert Berryman (Patricia) – who Mary helped raise following the death of their mother – and their children, whom she all adored.
A Funeral Mass service will be held for Mary on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11:00 am at
