Martha
Brewster
April 8, 1940 – February 13, 2017
Martha Lynn Brewster passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, February 13th, 2017. She was born April 8th, 1940 in Tyler, Texas. She leaves behind her loving husband of 58 years, Don Brewster, daughter Amy Whitehead, son-in-law Mark Whitehead, her only grandchild Parker Whitehead, and her sister, Sarah Bacica.
Don and Martha moved to Georgetown, Texas in 2011 finding the perfect place in Heritage Oaks. Between wonderful neighbors and having her family only 25 minutes away, her last years were some of her happiest.
She grew up in Tyler, Texas, the daughter of Randolph and Elizabeth Honea. She attended John Tyler High School where she and Don met and eventually married. They moved to Killeen, Texas where Don served in the Army at Fort Hood and Martha became a secretary on base. Her skills with shorthand and typing led to a career as a legal secretary, then as an executive secretary for Cameron Iron Works in Houston, Texas. Eventually, Amy came along and Martha traded in the typewriter for motherhood. She was a fabulous wife and mother, spending her time taking care of and doting over her husband and daughter.
Martha was the consummate hostess. She loved to have friends over to share a new hors d' oeuvre or the latest cocktail. Even as she was battling cancer, you could still find her and Don on the back covered porch with a glass of wine and a plate of crackers and cheese, welcoming neighbors over.
Her family was her life. She dedicated herself to making sure her "babies" were happy and had everything they needed. She loved watching Parker play the trombone in the Vista Ridge High School marching band, and hearing about his achievements in and out of school. She even looked forward to Tuesday chemo days because her favorite son-in-law, Mark, took her. They spent the days talking and laughing, turning a terrible situation into a joyous one.
Martha was able to make everyone feel like they were her top priority. She had a generous spirit and a quick smile. You knew you were listened to and truly cared about the moment you met her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Teneriello of Texas Oncology and his sweet nurse, Mandy. Also, words can't express how much Dr. Dekeratry meant in the last few weeks of Martha's life. His loving bedside manner and skills as an excellent physician gave her the strength to make it through her final days.
Finally, her spirit of light and love live on as an example of the saying, "It's not the days in your life but the life in your days." She lived each day with grace and class. She will be eternally missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
A memorial service will be held on February 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Ramsey Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service at Ramsey Funeral Home.
