Mario Lepe, 80, passed away on July 26, 2026, in Cedar Park, Texas, just four days after celebrating his 80th birthday.

Mario's life was a remarkable journey defined by perseverance, adventure, entrepreneurship, and an unwavering belief that anything was possible. Born on a small farm in Mexico to his mother, Adelaida Lepe, Mario learned early in life the values of hard work, determination, and resilience. Before his tenth birthday, he immigrated to the United States alongside his sister, Yolanda, beginning a new chapter that would become an inspiring American success story.

Mario proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying with him the same courage and discipline that would later define his business ventures and personal life.

After leaving the Army, Mario married Marjory Scofield of Minnesota in 1970. Their marriage lasted 25 years during which they built a family and business they were deeply proud of.

An entrepreneur at heart, Mario was a visionary who was never afraid to take risks. He built and operated multiple businesses throughout his life. The most successful and enduring of which was Maya Palenque Restaurant, a beloved establishment Mario and Marjory built in 1976 and operated together for decades before moving on to other adventures.

Whether creating opportunities, inventing solutions, or negotiating deals, Mario possessed a rare ability to see possibilities where others saw obstacles.

Above all else, Mario embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He was a world traveler, an inventor, a master negotiator, and perhaps most impressively, a man who could fix almost anything long before YouTube tutorials existed. His resourcefulness and confidence inspired everyone around him.

For Mario, adventure was not reserved for his younger years. He created unforgettable memories flying airplanes with his children, riding motorcycles into the sunset well into his late seventies, and chasing new experiences wherever life led him. His energy, charisma, and optimism could light up any room, and his infectious belief that "nothing is impossible" left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Mario's determination was legendary. Throughout his life, he faced numerous health challenges that left doctors doubtful he would recover. Yet time and again, Mario proved them wrong, bouncing back stronger each time, often with a smile, renewed energy, and a little extra pep in his step. His resilience became one of his defining traits and a source of inspiration to family and friends alike.

Anyone who knew Mario knew he was not a man who liked being told what he could or could not do, including by doctors. During several hospital stays over the years, he became famous among family members for trying to "break out" and get back to the things he loved. While doctors often predicted the worst, Mario seemed to take those predictions as a personal challenge, repeatedly proving them wrong and walking out with his trademark confidence and a grin on his face.

Mario is survived by his loving children: Veronica Rodriguez, Monica Lepe, Claudia Lepe, and Logan Lepe (Leticia); his grandchildren: Airlia, Layla, Emmanuel, Giovanna, and Ryan; and the many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Mario leaves behind a legacy of courage, laughter, hard work, and unforgettable stories. He taught those around him to dream boldly, work tirelessly, and never accept limitations. His impact can be found not only in the businesses he built and the places he traveled, but in the countless lives he touched through his generosity, charm, wisdom, and friendship. To know Mario was to know possibility. He approached life with fearless optimism, a relentless work ethic, and a belief that every problem had a solution. His stories, laughter, and larger-than-life personality will continue to be shared for generations to come.

Mario will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit of adventure, resilience, and optimism will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
