Obituary

Marilu Solis Mayora, born June 24, 1951 in Jocoaitique, El Salvador, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Marilu is preceded in death by her husband Oscar Mayora, her brother Rudy Solis, and her father Felipe Solis. She is survived by her mother Sofia Solis, sisters Rhina Sanabria and Rosario Solis, and brother Elmer Solis. She is also survived by daughters Mirella Smith and Debbie Lawhon, son Oscar Mayora Jr., and granddaughters Tyra, Gabriella, Mikaylie, and Andria.

Marilu grew up on a coffee plantation and ranch, where she learned to love nature. One of her favorite things to do was to visit the beautiful local parks in Georgetown and take pictures of nature. She truly felt at peace there. When she was 16 years old Marilu spent a year in Akron, Ohio as an exchange student. She fell in love with the States and brought back the fashion of the times to her home town in El Salvador. When she was 19 she met Oscar Mayora, who she later married. They immigrated to San Francisco, CA and raised 3 children together. Marilu began working at 3M Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA in the 1980's and when given the opportunity to transfer to Austin, Texas she gladly accepted. She retired from 3M after 30+ years. She lived in Austin, Round Rock, and finally Georgetown where she lived the rest of her days. She was a member of Saint Helen Catholic Church and joined various prayer and intercessory groups where she gained a second family. She volunteered at festivals, prayed for the sick and took communion to those unable to attend mass. She loved to serve God and others. Marilu enjoyed cooking for her family and loved ones, especially typical dishes from El Salvador like yucca frita, sopa de res, and of course pupusas. She was a kind, loving and generous daughter of God.
