Maria "Rose
Mary" Kettering
September 3, 1928 – January 23, 2025
Rosemary (Maria, Mary) Stames Kettering was born on September 3rd, 1923 in Calipatria, CA to Alex Stames and Teresa Ruiz. She entered her eternal home with Jesus on January 23rd, 2025. She was 96 years old.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Norman Kettering; her parents (Alex Stames and Teresa Ruiz), her four brothers: Bill, Manny, Pete and George; and her sister, Helen.
Rosemary met Norman Kettering in San Diego and soon after they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 12th, 1958. In their early years of marriage, Rosemary and Norm enjoyed fishing together and she became a World Champion Fisherwoman; earning several world records for catching Marlin and black Sea Bass (yet she did not like eating fish!) Ballroom dancing was also a favorite pastime.
They moved to Deadwood, Oregon in the early 1960's, where she helped raise her niece, Marie, and had her son, Michael Kettering. They enjoyed raising cattle and farm life. Later they moved to Creswell, Oregon and became a successful real estate team. Eventually they made their way back to San Diego where Rosemary actively participated in TOPS and helped organize their many events. She also enjoyed sewing and other "crafty" projects.
Her most beloved "job" was being "Mom", "Aunt Mary" and eventually "Grandma" to her three grandchildren.
Rosemary is survived by her son, Mike Kettering, daughter-in-law, Sally Kettering and three grandchildren, Brian Kettering (Cheyenne), David Kettering (Julia) and Katie Kettering; three great grandchildren, Mable Rose, Mariella Skye and Ellie Jane Kettering; and her niece Marie Johnson and great niece Stephanie Reyes.
Her Memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, February 8th, in the Prayer Chapel at First Baptist Georgetown. A light reception to follow.
