Marcia
Urban
February 17, 1949 – June 28, 2017
This is not your ordinary obituary. This was not your ordinary spirit. The love of my life, and
brightest star on the Georgetown square has gone out.
Marcy Urban, my wife of 33 years, has joined her father, Ramon Urban in a uniquely shared
destiny, both victims of Leukemia at MD Anderson, Houston. Marcy was never the one to give
up. She always thought she would beat it, right down to her last day.
This passion to succeed guided Marcy's life. The only sibling of 5 to graduate from college with
a bachelor of education from the University of Iowa, she inspired hundreds of elementary
students to believe in themselves through embracing learning. Her 25-year career of teaching a
can-do-anything attitude was transferred from the barrios of McAllen to the boardrooms of
Georgetown as a successful businesswoman, Broker, and owner of Urban Homes and Land. In
an inspiring 5 years as membership chair she led the way in doubling the size of the Chamber
of Commerce while becoming a founding member of PWOW, Professional Women of
Williamson County.
I shared the thoughts of her good friend, Karen Sheldon, president of the Georgetown Chamber
who admittedly struggled with the words to describe the loss of her amazing friend Marcy
Urban. "She was one of a kind...compassionate, kind, funny, opinionated, honest, and fiercely
loyal. She loved her family, Georgetown, the Chamber, the Most Beautiful Town Square in
Texas, and serving her clients in her successful real estate business. She was a champion for
the underdog, and lived her life with passion, integrity, and a servant's heart. I will miss her
sharp wit, keen intelligence, and caring soul. Rest In Peace Marcy. You were so loved and will
be so missed."
As her husband, I know Marcy's proudest accomplishment is her 4 children: Joshua Glenn, the
statesman of sales; Nicholas Glenn, the computer wiz-kid; Travis Cox, our MD star; and Kiri
Cox, architect of homes and our hearts.
Marcy's biggest regret will be having to settle with watching our grandchildren, Samuel, Parker
and Natalie, from heaven not able to cuddle them in her Earthly arms.
Every client Marcy met became a friend. She would ask that you not miss her, instead, honor
and remember her with a random act of kindness every day. However small or large, make this
world a better place. Do this, and maybe her light will never go out.
From my heart to yours,
Michael Cox, her forever loving husband
