LTC Maynard R. Myers, USA, Ret, entered into eternal rest on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, 2021, two months shy of 90 years old, surrounded by his loving family.
Maynard was born Jan. 14, 1932 in Hall, Texas to George and Ollie Myers, the eldest of four children. Maynard, from early life developed an intense passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and would you even believe Tennis?! He graduated from Rochelle High School in 1949. He chose his career in life to be the U.S. Army.
Maynard was a veteran of the Vietnam war, where he earned the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and various other medals. He was a Forward Observer for the Artillery and saw action over the whole peninsula. He survived two helicopter crashes, multiple engagements including the Tet Offensive and was reported missing in action three different times. Maynard was a tough tenacious country boy.
His home was wherever the Army decided to send him. While stationed in Germany, he met and married the love of his life, Diny and married her in Amsterdam, Holland. Two children later, the family returned to the states. He continued his career in the Army for a total of 32 years with an honorable discharge. He spent the remainder of his days reading, hunting, fishing and keeping up with his three grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was an active member of the Masons, affiliated with the San Gabriel Lodge #89 and was recently pinned with his 40 year membership pin.
Maynard is survived by his two daughters Ollie Ann and Buzzy Pool, Frances and Leonard Scott; three grandchildren Haley Pool, Hillary Lidell (David), and Hanna De Faria (Ricardo); three great-grandchildren Rhyder, Mason, Mackenzie; three siblings Christine Pulsifer, Willie Myers (Sarah) and Gloria Barr (Kenneth), along with numerous extended family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Gerdina "Diny", and his parents.
A visitation will be Monday, Nov. 22, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 at 10:00am at Ramsey Funeral Home with interment at 1:00pm in the Central Texas Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen/Ft. Hood, Texas.
