Loy Eldon
Walker
October 21, 1943 – May 10, 2025
Loy Eldon Walker passed peacefully on May 10, 2025, with his beloved wife, Virginia, by his side and the love of his family wrapped around him in spirit. In the words of a song that captured his essence, he truly did it his way—with conviction, humor, grit, and a heart full of grace.
He was born on October 21, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Grady and IV (Thornton) Walker, and from the beginning, his life was anchored in family, faith, and a deep belief that people matter more than anything else. In August 1965, he married the love of his life, Virginia, and together they built nearly 60 years of unwavering partnership—rooted in loyalty, laughter, and shared strength.
A graduate of the University of Corpus Christi, Loy spent 35 years in the pharmaceutical industry, eventually serving as Manager of Contracts and Grants at Boehringer Ingelheim. He found purpose in the process—especially working with the FDA to bring new treatments to market—and pride in doing work that made a difference. After retirement, Loy began a second chapter as Director of Transportation for Nacogdoches ISD—a role he found deeply meaningful, serving children and his community. In 2015, he and Virginia moved to Georgetown, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Loy officiated basketball for 20 years with the SBOA, including during the iconic Abe Lemons era at the University of Texas. He loved the game and was an avid athlete, spending countless hours playing tennis, pickleball, and golf. He enjoyed a good cigar, loved music of all kinds and had a soundtrack for every chapter of life. He famously sang "Tiny Bubbles" to his granddaughters so often they were convinced he had written it himself. He also treasured a well-timed joke, a good story, and an even better punchline. And then there was Jordan—his loyal black lab and constant companion. When he left this world, we have no doubt Jordan was waiting, tail wagging, to say, "Hey, I've been waiting on you—let's go truckin'."
He had an outgoing personality that allowed him to make friends quickly and share his Christian faith as a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown. He supported the church and its mission and believed in the teachings of the Lutheran doctrine. He believed you'd find God in the small stuff. He often said, 'circumstances might be out of our control, but the way we respond never is'. And he believed that a good laugh could carry you through almost anything.
Loy is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Virginia Walker; his daughter, Rana Walker of Georgetown, TX, and her daughters Cameron (Baughman) Field and her husband Cameron Field, great-granddaughter Carter Mae, Courtney, Chloe, and Abby; his son, Jeffrey Walker and wife Tamera of Goldthwaite, TX, and their children Layne and Whitley (Walker) Long and her husband Jared Long; and his brother, Lanny Walker of Wichita Falls, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Doyce and Darrell Walker.
A celebration of Loy's life will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church 4010 Williams Dr #1, Georgetown, TX 78628 — lunch to follow after service.
