Lois Mae
Patterson Case
March 30, 1932 – October 28, 2024
Dr. Lois Mae Patterson Case died peacefully on 10/28/2024 in Georgetown TX. She was born 3/30/1932 in Pittsburg PA to Cora Fahnestock and Stephen Louis "Pat" Patterson. Her father's birth name was Stefan Zbigniew Paczewski, but he used the name Patterson throughout his adulthood, and legally changed his name in 1942.
Lois spent most of her childhood and early adulthood in Columbus OH. She was a talented artist and poet as a child, and graduated early from Warren G Harding Senior High School in 1949.
She met the love of her life, Roderick Robert Case, a man with sparkling eyes and a sense of fun, while working as a ticket agent at a movie theater. They married in 8/15/1953 and enjoyed over 70 years of devotion.
The marriage brought them four children, and eventually five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They also welcomed into their family everyone their children loved. Their home was often overflowing with friends and family, a happy place for parties and holiday gatherings.
Rod's career took the family from Columbus to Hartford CT, Melbourne FL, and Hurst TX. During the time in Hurst, Lois was a social worker, and completed her doctorate in social work administration at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1988. Until her retirement, she was the director of the Child Study Center at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth TX.
Following their retirements in the 90s, Rod and Lois spent much more time traveling, exploring every continent, including countries that had just reopened for travel such as China, Russia, and Vietnam. They enjoyed Disneyworld so much that they became official Disney travel agents, and took their grandchildren, two at a time, to Disneyworld every year.
They moved to Sun City in Georgetown TX in 2001 to continue their active retirement. They joined Faith Lutheran Church. Lois was a regular volunteer at the Georgetown Library. Additionally, she mentored women who were recovering from legal trouble, joined a neighborhood book club, and participated in continuing education classes.
Rod and Lois enjoyed cruise ship travel more and more in the 2010s, and decided to move to the Wesleyan Estrella because it felt like a continuation of the cruise ship lifestyle. While in Independent Living, Lois was active in several committees and clubs. However, Lois suffered a mental and physical decline in 2024, and spent her final months at the Wesleyan happily watching people and singing hymns with visitors. Her most devoted visitor was her husband Rod, who brought her peanut butter cups and other treats.
Lois is survived by her loving husband Rod Case; her brother Jerry Patterson, who was her lifelong friend, and his wife Sarah; her son Randall and his wife Susan; her son Bradley and his wife Michelle; her son Scott and his wife Ming; and her daughter Lauren. Grandchildren are Michael Case, Lindsey Miller, Ryan R Case, Sarah Morales, and Vivian Smith. Great-grandchildren are Brandon Case, Gunner Miller, Cashlyn Miller, Vincent Morales, and Carson Morales. Lois adored all of them.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at The Wesleyan Small Chapel.
