Obituary

Linda Schwartz, 80, of Texas and formerly of Menomonie, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in December 2025.

Linda shared more than 57 years of marriage with her husband, Bill, a partnership rooted in deep affection, mutual respect, faith, and shared curiosity about the world. Their story began in high school, where they attended prom together, and continued through college and decades of learning, travel, and life's many adventures side by side. Linda was Bill's constant companion and greatest supporter.

Linda was a lifelong learner and educator, known for her intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and generous spirit. Education shaped every phase of her life, both professionally and personally, and she believed deeply in the power of learning as a lifelong pursuit. Linda valued education not only as a teacher but also as a student. She earned both an undergraduate degree and a master's degree, achievements that reflected her commitment to learning and personal growth and informed her work throughout her life.

Throughout her career, Linda devoted herself to education, teaching high school English, history, journalism, and yearbook. She had a gift for engaging students, and nurturing curiosity. Later, she continued teaching adult learners as an adjunct instructor and worked in educational training and program leadership, supporting professionals as they adapted to evolving technologies and new ways of learning.

Beyond her professional life, Linda was deeply engaged in genealogy, a passion that became one of her life's great pursuits. She dedicated years to researching family history, building an extensive multigenerational family tree, and contributing her time and talents to genealogy and heritage organizations. She was particularly active within Norwegian-American genealogy circles and with the Trønderlag of America, where she helped preserve history and connect others to their roots.

Linda also found joy and community through dog agility training and competition. Traveling with her dogs, she embraced the discipline, challenge, and camaraderie that came with the sport. She earned a Master Agility Champion (MACH) title, the highest honor awarded by the American Kennel Club, with her dog Asti. Even after she could no longer compete, her connection to the agility community and the relationships it fostered remained an important part of her life.

A love of travel was another constant throughout Linda's life. Together with her husband and family, she explored the world, including memorable trips to Norway, France, Ireland, and beyond. These journeys reflected her curiosity, her appreciation for culture and history.

Linda is survived by her husband; her children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A private remembrance will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's memory may be made to the Silverado Foundation .
