Obituary

Lawrence E. Walston, 78, died at 12:05 AM on July 1, 2020. He died of Parkinson's, at home under Hospice care surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Susan M. Walston; son, Clint M. Waltson and wife Donya M. Mosaffa; his two granddaughters, Cali P. Walston and Charlize R. Walston of Lafayette, CA; brother, Ronny R. Walston and wife Sandra K. Walston of Victoria, Texas; niece, Amanda K. Walston of Victoria, Texas; and his nephew, Edwin R. Walston of Austin, Texas.

Lawrence was born in Woodsboro, Texas and was a graduate of Kenedy High School, in Kenedy, Texas. He spent two years at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Lawrence was in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War. He was called up for active duty and reported to Fort Polk, Louisiana; then he went to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for artillery training. Then he went back to San Antonio for his physical before going overseas. It was in San Antonio, during his physical, that doctors found that he was diabetic, and he was immediately discharged.

Lawrence worked in the oil business all his adult life. He apprenticed as an instrument fitter and traveled all over the United States working in many of the oil refinery plants. He married his wife of 48 years, Susan Walston in 1972. At that time, he changed jobs and trained himself to become a highly skilled instrument designer and draftsman. Lawrence worked for many of the engineering firms in Houston, Texas until he retired in 2008

Lawrence was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and eventually became a champion skeet shooter. He loved tennis until he took up golf, which became his passion. Lawrence and Susan moved to Sun City, Texas when they both retired. He enjoyed meeting and playing golf with his buddies here in Sun City and loved traveling with them. His other passion and love were his granddaughters and family who were so deeply loved. He recently reflected on his life and decided it was a "Dream Come True!"

A brief memorial service was held on Thursday, July 2 nd .
