Larry Mack
Bingham
September 15, 1952 – February 9, 2025
Larry Bingham, 72, of Salado, TX, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on the morning of February 9th, 2025, stepping into the perfect presence of his Heavenly Father.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Tina; his son Jacob and wife Leslie and their two daughters Sarah and Leah; daughter Jacklyn and her husband Kyle Cheatham and children Sawyer, Harris and Posey, as well as a multitude of wonderful family, extended family and dear friends.
Larry was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the Army/Navy Hospital in 1952 to Jerry Stanton and Nancy Harris. He adored his mother Nancy and both of his grandparents "Mama and Bud Harris". Larry attended Van Horn schools as well as the New Mexico Military Institute. Larry began working in the hospitality industry at a very young age, working for his grandparents who owned the Big Bend Truck Stop in Van Horn, TX. In 1971 he joined the Air Force, working as a Crew Chief on C-130s and was honorably discharged in 1974.
Larry met the love of his life, Tina Pearce in 1974 at what was formerly known as the Rodeway Inn in Ft Worth, TX, one of many hotels his parents owned. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married June 21, 1975 in Houston, TX.
Larry and Tina were married five years before they started their family. Jacob was born in 1980, and Jacklyn in 1985. Larry said, "We've now duplicated ourselves, so now we're going to stop." He raised his children and grandchildren to know the sound of his distinct whistle.
One fond memory his children share is that of his title "Crazy Larry". Larry had the grand idea to raise support for the Georgetown High School football team from 1997-1999 in a unique way. In order to direct attention towards the football field and away from the stands, he would paint his face blue and white, wear a curly blue wig and double 00 jersey and enthusiastically beat a drum to cheer on his son and his teammates. The crowd went wild!
Though he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking, Larry's favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Pops, never failing to share a teachable moment or tell them "Lughewe!"
Larry and his friends were deeply close throughout their lives. These were his loving brothers, referring to themselves as the S.T.E.R.O.I.D.S. (South Texas Engineers Regarding the Obliteration of Innocent Deer). From trips to the Goat Shed, Encinal, Sonora, Port Aransas or Galveston to hang out, fish, or hunt, they were together and there for one another through it all.
Larry went to work as a manager of Rodeway Inn fresh out of the military, and his career in the hotel/motel and Hospitality industry never ceased. He worked for Lodging Host and Choice Hotels for the majority of his career. Prior to his retirement in 2019, he was employed by Don Hewlett Chevrolet for ten years.
Larry was a third generation and active member of Rotary Club of Georgetown. Having a true servant's heart, he would also spend many weekends building accessibility ramps for those in need. He was a past president in 1987, received two Paul Harris awards and was on the Honor Roll 587. In addition, it delighted him to honor the veteran's the last eight years by being a part of the 'Field of Honor'. He stayed very busy in the community as an active member of United Way on their Board of Directors, was an honorary member of the Williamson County Sheriffs Posse, served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Director's, and was a member of the National Narcotics Detective Dog Association. In addition to cooking for his churches, he has helped cater the Annual R.O.C.K. Fundraiser for the past ten years.
For 37 years, Larry and Tina were active members of St John's Methodist Church of Georgetown, and he was heavily involved in their annual Harvest Festival. More recently, Larry was a founding member of Grace Church Jarrell, active from its launch in January 2023. He devoted countless hours of his time greeting, consulting, making tacos for Men's Bible Study, and cooking for special events. God used Larry's genuine and contagious warmth to help shape the people of Grace into a truly loving congregation. He invited countless others to attend church, always letting them know they would be taught straight from the Bible.
Everyone who knew Larry knew how much he loved being outside, and in particular, going fishing. He was always asking the kids "Wanna go fishin' with Pops?" A quote that hung in his room for decades reads: "God does not deduct from man's allotted time those hours spent in fishing."
Larry will always be remembered for his straightforward, yet disarming way of lovingly imparting wisdom. His later years included many hours reading the Bible, all the way through several times (six times last year!) as his love for Jesus grew right up until he stepped from this life into the presence of His Lord.
We'll always recall hearing him say "Let me show you a trick I learned in the '40s". We couldn't have asked for a better parent, grandparent, or friend, and will miss Larry every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved and knew him.
A Memorial Service to honor Larry will be held on March 29th at 1:00 PM at: Grace Church Salado (5798 FM-2484, Salado, TX 76571)
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the R.O.C.K of Georgetown (ROCK Equine-Assisted Activities & Therapies) or a Rotary Scholarship for a young Rotarian of Williamson County ( Rotary Club of Georgetown ).
