Lana Jean
Walters
August 16, 1945 – February 1, 2026
Lana Jean (Whitehead) Walters, age 80, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2026.
She was born at home on August 16, 1945, in Bertram, Texas, to Ira Gue Whitehead and Juanita Jewell (Knox) Whitehead. Lana spent most of her life in Central Texas, surrounded by extended family and deeply devoted to those she loved.
She was united in marriage to Bernard Walters on January 28, 1966, and they shared 60 years of marriage together.
Lana attended Texas Women's University and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She worked for many years as a substitute teacher and served her community for more than 20 years as a rural mail carrier and trainer with the United States Postal Service.
Family and community were central to Lana's life. She led her daughter Tammy's Girl Scout Troop 115 and was actively involved with Cub Scouts and Webelos for her son Jeff. She faithfully attended countless school events, athletic competitions, and theater performances in support of her children.
Lana was raised in the Church of Christ and Baptist traditions and later in life was active in the Lutheran church. All shaped her values and guided her life.
She found joy in quilting and sewing, creating countless handmade quilts, blankets, and gifts that have become treasured family heirlooms to many. She also spent years researching, compiling, and preserving an extensive genealogy record.
She was a precious and special wife, mother, aunt, daughter, cousin, and friend to so many. Each and everyone who knows her has a story to tell about how their life has been shaped by knowing her.
Lana faced prolonged health challenges with strength and perseverance, supported through many seasons by her faithful husband Bernard, whom she loved dearly, and by family members and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Walters; her children Tamara Baldwin (Gil) of Austin, Texas, and Jeff Walters (Jocelyn) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and her grandchildren Julia, Grayson, Millie, and Charlie, who were all a great joy in her life. She is also survived by her brother Randall Whitehead (Connie).
Lana was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Juanita Whitehead, and her sister Phyllis Hickman.
Lana will be remembered as a strong advocate for her family, an example of strength, and a steady presence whose love was shown through service, faith, and all of the ways she cared for others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
