Obituary

Kevin Anthony Jones, age 58, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family in Georgetown, Texas. He was born on August 28, 1966 in Gallatin, Tennessee to Levon and Eulalia Jones.

Kevin excelled academically and musically, graduating as an honors student from Lawrenceburg High School in 1984. A gifted trombone player, he earned a full scholarship to Memphis State University, where he played for 4 years in the Mighty Sound of the South marching band. His passion for music led him to join Phi Mu Alpha, a national music fraternity. After earning his bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Kevin apprenticed with an electrician in Nashville fueling a lifetime of DIY projects. He later moved to Michigan, beginning a successful career in Information Technology with EDS.

Kevin met the love of his life Tammy working at General Motors. It was love at first sight, and they celebrated 31 years of marriage in 2024. Tammy often called Kevin her "hero and a genius" for his extraordinary ability to build, fix, or create anything he wanted with his patience and determination. Together, they shared a love for the outdoors, frequently hiking local, state, and national parks, with the Smoky Mountains holding a special place in their hearts. Among their adventures was hiking Mt. LeConte multiple times. They also enjoyed going to many different theme parks with their family, especially Disney World.

His adventurous spirit extended to mountain biking, camping in Estes Park, disc golf, kayaking, paddleboarding, earning his motorcycle license, and achieving a 3rd-degree level 3 black belt in Taekwondo after 7 years of dedication. A devoted LSU fan, he proudly flew the purple and gold flag on the front porch every gameday. He would light up at every "Geaux Tigers!" exchanged with a fellow fan in LSU gear.

Kevin's passion for trombone extended beyond college as he performed with several church orchestras, the Nashville Praise Symphony, and a local community band, Band of the Hills. He also had a special fondness for family game nights and numerous family holiday traditions. One of his favorite family traditions was a scavenger hunt to uncover each person's special Christmas gift.

In 2017, Kevin and Tammy moved to Georgetown, Texas with continued growth in his IT management career. His passion for technology and music found a creative outlet in his custom Christmas light displays synchronized to music. Each year, he began programming in April to ensure the display was ready by November. He wanted to share them on YouTube with family and friends who couldn't enjoy them in person, and can be seen here .

As a father, his son Connor and daughter Madison have countless cherished memories that will last beyond a lifetime. The laughter, love, and work ethics were exemplified in each Girl Scout event and Daddy Daughter Dance. It's a struggle to put into words how patient, sincere, and reliable he was in all things a boy cherishes sharing with his dad - from learning to ride a bike to hitting a baseball. Peanut, our Yorkie of 16 years, was loved as the baby of the family providing him with comfort and companionship to be rivaled with.

His empathy and compassion impacted the lives of everyone around him. He is survived by his wife, Tammy, his son and daughter, Connor and Madison, his parents, Levon and Eulalia Jones, his brothers, Daryl (Cammy) Jones and Chris (Sharon) Jones, and many cousins, nephews, great nephews, nieces and a great niece who loved and adored him.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Kevin's memory to the Cancer Research Institute, supporting the development of effective cancer treatments, or the National Park Foundation, preserving the beauty of our national parks.
