In Loving Memory of Kathyrn "Kathi" Joyce Morgan Nielsen

November 27, 1946 – May 7, 2026

Kathyrn “Kathi” Joyce Morgan Nielsen passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at the age of 79. Her heart and lungs gave out quietly, and she left this world without pain, finding a well-deserved and peaceful rest.

Born in Yakima, Washington on November 27, 1946, Kathi dedicated her early professional life to the care of others, spending 20 years working tirelessly for Child Protective Services. She raised her daughter, Kristine, in Bellevue, Washington, before embarking on a new adventure with her husband, Jerry. Together, they bought and operated Western Metal Arts. After years of hard work, they took to the open road, RVing across the country before finally choosing to retire to Georgetown, Texas in 2008.

In 2017, Kathi suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. Throughout the subsequent challenges, her husband Jerry remained devoted to her, caring for her at home right up until her final moments—a testament to a long, deeply bonded, and bickersome marriage that survived the test of time.

Kathi will be remembered most for her incredible sense of humor, her vibrant creativity, and her special way of making everyone around her feel deeply loved and welcomed. She was a self-proclaimed neat freak who fiercely hated going to the doctor, but fiercely loved her friends. Whether she was playing Mahjong with her girlfriends or finding clever ways to sit outside and visit during Covid, she cherished her community. Above all, Kathi adored her family. She took immense joy in helping to raise her grandchildren and, though she never got the chance to meet her great-grandson in person, she delighted in his videos, always remarking on how "stinkin' cute" he is.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Nielsen of Georgetown, TX; her sister, Karen Nations of Dry Branch, GA; and her brother, Franklin Morgan of Buckley, WA. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in her daughter, Kristine "Morgan" of West Seattle, WA; her grandson, Taylor Rybar and his wife Jamila Iraqui, and her great-grandson, Leo, all of Honolulu, HI; as well as her namesake granddaughter, Katherine Rybar Fisher and her husband Caleb Fisher of West Seattle, WA.
