Obituary

Katherine Louise Koepke Schwegmann, 81, passed away on March 5, 2023, at her home in Georgetown.

Kathy was born February 6, 1942 in La Grange, to Herman Koepke and Elsie Wiemken Koepke. Kathy graduated from La Grange High School in 1960 and went on to attend Nixon-Clay Commercial College in Austin. Kathy married David Schwegmann on February 22, 1964 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children, Becky Schwegmann Snow and Charles Schwegmann .

Once married, she and David moved to the Denver area, where she enjoyed new friends, but always missed her family and friends of La Grange. The four Schwegmanns relocated to Austin then Georgetown in the mid-1970s where she and David built their family home, planted and managed a peach and pecan orchard, and began their membership at Christ Lutheran Church.

In addition to her commitment to the Schwegmann Orchard and family, Kathy was also a multi-talented artist and enjoyed gathering with friends. She began her crafting spree with painting ceramics, her next creative passion was baking and decorating wedding and specialty cakes and making scrumptious sweets. She also took up wood working followed by the beautiful gourds she painted. She finally settled her creative skills on growing and nurturing the most vivid and unique irises, of which she shared with so many friends! She was a constant presence at both local farmers markets and her home selling peaches and then pecans. Her love was meeting and interacting with people, including those with whom she played cards with weekly.

Kathy didn't stop with family, orchards and crafts. She was a very active volunteer with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and helped in conducting many cooking schools and educational programs. She served as treasurer of the Williamson County Extension Education association for many years, was a member of the Heritage and later the New Horizons Extension clubs, treasurer of the Family and Consumer Sciences Committee and served on the Family Community health Advisory Committee. She helped organize the first Pecan Bake Show held along with the Williamson County Pecan Show. .

Kathy is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Schwegmann of Georgetown, daughter Becky Snow of Jarrell, and son, Charles Schwegmann of Georgetown. She also will continue to be a constant presence in the lives of her two grandchildren, Brittany Marie Snow and Jeremy David Snow, and her son-in-law, Ricky Allen Snow, all of Jarrell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carolyn Mersiovsky and brother-in-law Norman Mersiovsky. Survivors include brothers Herman "Billy" Keopke, of La Grange and Charles Koepke and Nelda Blaha of Plum. She is loved and missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
