Obituary

Karen Brizendine Standridge passed away on June 25th, 2025 at age of 68 and will be remembered as a daughter, mother, teacher and a friend.

She loved animals big and small and enjoyed caring for her farm animals including goats, chickens, guineas, geese, cats and dogs. In addition, she even cared for a badger and a monkey. The last two animals listed are her sons David and Brian. She assigned people animals that represented their personalities with her self designation being a manatee. Per her words, she was "big and slow, just like a manatee."

She taught many lessons to those willing to listen and spent the working years of her life as a teacher. She had an affinity to those who were lesser noticed and took special interest to make sure they knew they were special, even if no one else thought they were. An under-appreciated and testament to her desire to make a difference. She taught moderation in all things and that enough is as good as a feast. She encouraged all to seize windows of opportunities before they close, and to be humble in victory and in defeat with the phrase "I'll beat you next time" alongside a grin and handshake.

She leaves behind her mother Margaret Brizendine, her brother Curtis Brizendine and his wife Nancy Brizendine, and her two sons David and Brian Ross; Stepdaughters Audrey Chambers and her husband Bill, Farah Anderson and her husband Tom, and Crystal Standridge. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Standridge. Let her early passing from a battle with an autoimmune condition affecting her liver be a reminder to make your doctor appointments. She said in her final days she had lived a long life, was loved and was at peace.

The service will be held on July 12th at the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. As per her request, there will be no visitation or viewing. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Brizendine Cemetery at Gabriel Mills, 2604 County Road 236, Liberty Hill, TX 78642.

Spending time in Sante Fe watching southwest sunsets with her husband Kenneth, who passed a year earlier than her, were some of the highlights of her life.
