Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Lee Doran.  Karen was preceded in death by her father, Roy W. Ponton, her mother Gertrude L. Ponton and brother William R. Ponton.  She is survived by her loving husband Francis P. Doran of Georgetown, Tx, her sister and best friend Sandra L. Layman of West Virginia, her adoring children Jim Rizak of Maryland, Dawn Rizak Clay of Ohio, and Anthony Doran of Toronto, Canada.  Karen had seven adorable grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Karen was a native of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and a lifelong fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.  She and her sister enjoyed frequent visits to the Phipp's Conservatory there, as Karen was appreciative of the beautiful floral displays.

Karen's love of beautiful flowers led to a career as a professional floral designer.  While living and working in Annapolis, Maryland her clients included celebrities Tom Clancy, Pat Sajak and Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

After moving to Georgetown, Karen donated her talents to the Berry Creek Women's Association, the Berry Creek Country Club Cancer tournament, and the Berry Creek Christmas Tour of Homes.  Lucky friends and loved ones were recipients of her extraordinary handmade wreathes and arrangements.

Karen had a love of animals and had many different pets over the years.  A few were chosen by her, but many times, the animals picked Karen as she took in numerous strays and abandoned pets, providing them with a loving home.

Karen's favorite pastimes included daily phone chats with her sister Sandra, reading scripture and devotionals, Bunco, gardening and trying new recipes.  She also enjoyed riding along with her husband Frank while he played golf with friends.

Rest in peace Karen,  you have completed your earthly duties and have earned your reward.  We are forever blessed because you loved us like Jesus. Until we meet again…
