Joshua Lee Richards, age 64, passed away on May 23, 2026, while traveling in Mexico.
Josh was born in Amarillo, Texas, on January 28, 1962, to Charlotte and Edward Richards. He was the youngest of their three children, following his brothers, Kalem and Lee Richards. Josh attended Round Rock High School, where he participated in FFA and graduated with the Class of 1980.
In the summer of 1980, Josh met the love of his life, Jaquetta Heckman. Adventure was the name of the game, and Josh had met his match. The two fell deeply in love and were married on February 18, 1983, beginning a partnership that would span more than four decades. Their greatest thrill seeking adventure arrived on April 7, 1994, with the birth of their son, Talon Richards, in Round Rock, Texas. Josh's excitement was evident from the very beginning; after Talon's birth, he proudly stamped his newborn son's ink-covered footprints onto the pocket of his white shirt, a treasured memory he carried throughout his life.
A skilled machinist by trade, Josh founded The Woodsman Company in 1984, a business that remains in operation today. What began as a driftwood collection and treatment operation grew into a company supplying the three largest taxidermy businesses in the United States. Over time, The Woodsman Company expanded to include residential tree services, reflecting Josh's entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic.
While Josh worked hard, his greatest passion was adventure and travel. Over his lifetime, he visited more than 60 countries by motorcycle, always searching for the next horizon. He was an avid outdoorsman who guided hunting trips, spent countless days fishing with family, and shared his love and respect for nature with his grandson. One of Josh's dreams was to see part of the Woodsman Ranch developed into a wildlife sanctuary, preserving the beauty and wildlife he cherished.
Josh believed deeply in hard work, perseverance, and living life to its fullest. Whether exploring distant countries, spending time on the river, or enjoying the outdoors, he found joy in every expedition. Yet among all the beauty he encountered, none compared to that of his beloved wife, Jaquetta. After celebrating 43 years of marriage, they remained as devoted and in love as they were when their journey together began.
Josh is survived by his loving wife, Jaquetta Richards; his son, Talon Richards, and wife, Michaela Chambers; his grandson, Cooper Chambers; his brother, Kalem Richards, and wife, Denise Richards; his niece, Jenna Garcia, and husband, Bryan Garcia; great-nephew, Bryce Garcia; his nephew, Skyler Richards, and wife, Katie Richards; great-nephew, Brady Richards; great-niece, Parker Richards; his brother, Lee Richards, and wife, Brenda Richards; his nephew, Morgan Richards and fiancée, Amy; his niece, Amy Dittfurth, and husband, Cade Dittfurth; his great-niece, Allie Mondey and great-nephew, Gauge Dittfurth.
Josh was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Edward Richards; his mother-in-law, Regina Heckman; his father-in-law, Donald Heckman; his maternal grandparents, Nina Barker and Thomas ("Tommy") Barker; and his paternal grandparents, Eula and Ted Richards.
The final quest of Joshua's life will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. A graveside burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, Josh's spirit of adventure, love of family, and appreciation for the natural world will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
