Obituary

Jon Nolan Harvey passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the age of 61. Born on June 7, 1955 and raised in Austin, he made The Ranch in Georgetown his home for the last 32 years. He had many nicknames, to include: Tadpole, Uncle Papo and Papa Jon.

Jon was a proud Aggie who attended Texas A&M University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from St. Edward's University in 1978. For over 30 years, many of which were alongside his father and brother, he worked in their family owned business, Southwestern Materials, where he made lifelong friendships marketing highway safety materials. Since then, he's enjoyed his retirement with numerous hobbies, to include: photography, poetry, relaxing on The Ranch, and traveling around the world and the Caribbean, especially Bequia.

Jon was proud of his Scottish heritage and enjoyed wearing his nine-yard Black Watch kilt. He attended renaissance festivals around the country, but especially enjoyed being with all of his friends each fall at The Texas Renaissance Festival.

Cooking was more than a passion for Jon, it was his way of showing love for others. This meant many hours of cooking for family and friends at wedding receptions, anniversaries, birthdays, and the annual Easter Egg Hunt. For the past 3 years, Jon found great joy in donating meals for Georgetown ISD high school students that are homeless, at-risk, or living in transition attending The NEST.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John Nolan Harvey and Mabel Louise Davis Harvey; as well as his sister, Jacqueline (Jill) Harvey Garrett; and his brother-in-law, Jennings (Bud) A. Garrett.

Jon is survived by his wife Deborah (Debbie) Harvey; his children: April Dawn Mann Brandt and her husband Leander (Lee) Justice Brandt IV, Kristina Rose Mann Roberson and her husband Chase Lee Roberson, Dustin Michael Mann and his partner Wesley Richard Culver, Tyler Lee Mann and his partner Rachel Simone DeRouen. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Alden Harvey and his wife Elizabeth (Libby) Harvey; his nieces and nephews: Jennings (Jag) A. Garrett, Jr. and wife Dawn Polley Garrett; and their children: Sarah, Rebecca, Adam and Jared; Jack Alden Harvey, Jr.; Jana Garrett Mathiesen and her husband Eric Mathiesen; and their children: Randi and Samantha; and Jamie Harvey Evans and her husband Jed Cox Evans.

Papa Jon was very proud of his seven grandchildren: Leander (LeeJ) Justice Brandt V, Garrett Mitchell Brandt, Kara Lynne Brandt, Anna Elizabeth Brandt, Jenna Nicole Brandt, Coleten Lee Roberson and Makaila Rose Roberson.

Viewing will be on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 6-8pm at Ramsey Funeral Home, located at 5600 Williams Drive in Georgetown. The graveside service will be on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10am at Assumption Cemetery, located at 3650 South Interstate 35 Frontage Road in Austin.

Pallbearers will include his sons: Dustin and Tyler Mann; and his Easter crew: Jed Evans, Mariano Diaz-Miranda, Anthony Schmidt, Gary Cusick, Mace Reedy and James Holder.

In lieu of flowers, Jon would appreciate donations to his favorite cause, The NEST (Nurturing Empowering Support for Tomorrow), providing an after-school haven that offers basic needs, counseling, academic support, job readiness skills, hot meals around a dinner table and a warm caring environment for Georgetown ISD high school students that are homeless, at risk, or living in transition.  Donations may be made to The NEST in memory of Jon at: www.georgetownproject.com .
