John Daniel "Danny" Ihrig, 81, of Georgetown, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 2, 2026. He is survived by his devoted wife, LaJuan, his children Chad Ihrig of California,John Ihrig of Boulder Colorado, Carl Carpenter (Janet), Cartha Siddiqui (Nameer), and grandchildren Kieran Carpenter, Collin Evans, Jayke Evans, Amaan Siddiqui, Imran Siddiqui, Hameed Siddiqui. His Sister Rebecca (Tom)Muecke, His brother Robert (Brenda Griggers) Ihrig, Niece Michele, Katy (Charles V) Forbes, Charles VI, Cody, Carsen, Caden Forbes. Nephew Brian (Jeanette) Muecke, Max, Peyton & Lila Muecke. Rachel (Paul) Goydan, Margaret,Trip,Gus. He was preceded in death by his father Rev. Arnold J. and Helen Stewart Ihrig, William & Marie Allen Stout.
Danny was born on April 6, 1944 in Sinton, TX to Rev. Arnold & Helen Stewart Ihrig, who raised him to love God & love people. He & his brother Robert loved playing football, basketball and any thing else young boys do with the neighbor kids around the parsonage. Rev. Ihrig taught all three of his children to hunt and every season they hunted quail & Dove. Danny played football and basketball in high school and was a star athlete in both. One of the accomplishments that he was very proud of was becoming and Eagle Scout. He spent most of his early life in Karnes County.
Danny attended school in Karnes City for all 12 years, before business at Texas State. He started out as a football coach & PE teacher at Little Cyress-Maluriceville and thought he could line up kindergarteners. From there he moved to Pearland where he coached football. Then, to the Conroe ISD where he coached golf and taught business courses.
Danny was passionate about coaching and interacting with the kids at McCullough High School.
Danny met the love of his life, LaJuan in 4th grade, they dated a little in high school, but each went their separate ways for 40 years, but got back to gather in 2002 at a class reunion. Excited to begin their new lives together, the two were married March 6, 2003.
Danny will always be remembered for his love of people, his coaching, his fishing stories and his fishing trips where on occasion there might have been a couple boats submerged.
Danny was an active and faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg, Texas. He enjoyed the Wednesday morning bible study, Wurstbratten, all the fellowship and comaraderie of the faithful members.
A service to give thanks for God's gift of life to Danny will be held on Monday, January 12 at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg. A visitation will precede the service at 9:30 am at Zion. Gifts in Danny's memory may be made to Zion Lutheran School in Walburg.
