Joe O. Seeber
May 31, 1940 – April 3, 2023
Joe O. Seeber, 82, of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 at his home, with his wife Elaine by his side.
Joe was born on May 31, 1940 in Los Angeles, California, the youngest of three children of Joe and Mamie Seeber. The family returned to Grand Prairie, Texas shortly after Joe was born. He attended Grand Prairie schools and graduated from high school in 1958. He attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, where he played on the men's basketball team and graduated in 1963. Joe loved every blade of grass at Southwestern. He told anyone and everyone that he never felt more at home than being on the Southwestern campus. He married the love of his life, Elaine Seeber, in 2003 and the two of them shared many wonderful memories over the past two decades.
Joe loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Serving Him in a multitude of ways and means was the essence of his being. At times, Joe was a man of few words, but when he did speak, the knowledge of his worldly experiences were life lessons of perseverance, endurance, hard work, faith, and contentment. He inherited a love of baseball from his mother, along with his daily ritual of reading various newspapers, especially the Dallas Morning News , starting with the sports section. He seemed to remember every minor detail of the untold number of sporting events he attended all across the country throughout his life.
He was the founder and owner of TriStem Ltd., a utility bill auditor for consumers of large utilities. His business savvy was impeccable, and it served many organizations and individuals well, including Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and Southwestern University, where he served on the Boards of Trustees. He also served as President of Southwestern Alumni and led the way for the return of the football program at Southwestern after a 50-year hiatus, which he considered one of his proudest accomplishments.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul Seeber, and sister, Nina Young and her husband James. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Elaine Seeber, and by his three children, of whom he was extremely proud: son Joey Seeber, son John Michael Seeber and wife Brooke Butner, and daughter Jill Seeber. He is also survived by step-daughters and their husbands, Shonna and Timothy Tobias and Neissa and Russell Springmann; grandchildren Joseph Seeber, Witt Seeber, Beckett Seeber, Wallace Seeber, Jack Huysmans, Finn Huysmans, Claire Tobias, Cole Tobias, Durant Springmann, and Malaine Springmann.
He is also survived by siblings-in-law Sharon Dean and Connie and Sue Watson; nieces and nephews, Scott and Denita Young, Lance and Melissa Dean, Grant and Emily Dean, Glenn and Meghan Daniel, and Craig Daniel; many step-siblings and a host of other nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by many special friends, especially Donny and Brenda Brown, Kristen Seeber, and last but not least, his lifelong college band of SUEY PIG brothers, i.e., the "Southwestern University Extension at Yoakum, Program for Incompetent Graduates".
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 pm at the Southwestern University Chapel in Georgetown, 1001 East University Avenue. Wayne Williams from Renew Church in Waco will be officiating. A reception will be held following the celebration of life in the Caldwell-Carvey Foyer located in the Fine Arts Building.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Joe to The Worship Place Building Fund, 811 Sun City Boulevard, Georgetown, Texas 78633.
