In Loving Memory of Joanne Doucette
October 31, 1945 – November 7, 2024
It is with deep sadness and great sorrow that we announce that our beloved mother, Joanne Doucette (age 80), peacefully passed away on the afternoon of Friday, November 7, after a years-long battle with Stage 4 colon cancer. She was surrounded by family in her Maine-themed She Shed.
Born on October 31, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Joanne was the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Ednamae Colonna and the beloved sister of Joe and Barbara. She graduated from Trinity College in Burlington, Vermont, with a B.S. in Secretarial Sciences and built a rewarding career as a paralegal and administrative assistant in New Jersey.
In 1966, while a junior at Trinity, Joanne met the love of her life, Paul Doucette, at a Saint Michael's College Senior Week party. They married on May 4, 1968, and shared 57 years of love and laughter. Together they raised two daughters, Cindy and Kathy, and later welcomed three grandchildren—Allie, Connor, and Caitlyn—and one great-grandson, Callum Kinney.
Joanne's greatest joys were her family, her dogs, and the beauty of nature. She loved horseback riding, spending time at the beach, and relaxing by the water in Maine. She volunteered passionately at food pantries and libraries, and especially with Oasis—A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson, NJ, where she served for over 15 years.
After moving to Texas in 2021, Joanne cherished time with her grandchildren, became a loyal Fightin' Texas Aggies fan, and continued living each day with grace, humor, and strength.
Diagnosed in July 2024 with Stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to her liver and lungs, Joanne fought bravely through treatment, always surrounded by love. She passed away peacefully at home and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Survived by: Her husband, Paul Doucette; brother, Dr. Joseph Colonna (wife Maria); sister, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Barbara Colonna; daughters, Cindy Doucette (husband Joe Marchese) and Kathy Wagner (husband Greg); grandchildren, Allie Marchese Kinney (husband Dylan), Connor, and Caitlyn Wagner; and great-grandson, Callum Kinney.
