"Bob" Fritts, Jr.
December 1, 1926 – February 6, 2017
Jim Smith "Bob" Fritts, Jr. was born to Jim S. Fritts, Sr. and Dolly Birkner Fritts on December 1, 1926 in Austin, Texas, and was the second of five children. Bob grew up in Austin, Texas and attended Pleasant Hill Elementary, Fulmore Jr High School, and Austin High School, where he was a part of the Red Dragons Theater Group. Growing up he spent a lot of time fishing, playing outside and taking care of animals.
After finishing high school, he joined the United States Navy on November 28, 1944 where he served as an Aviation Radioman Second Class. He later joined the Marine Corps Reserve and served as a Staff Sergeant. During his time of service he was stationed in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and California. He was honorably discharged on July 25, 1946.
After serving his country, he attended the University of Texas and St. Edwards University, both in Austin, Texas. Bob and Violet Ricks were married for 15 years and together they had three children: Cheryl, Raymond, and Robert. During his years in Austin, he worked for the telephone company and also Ricks Construction Company.
On May 30, 1964 Bob married Betty Lou in Arlington, Texas and shortly after moved to Houston, Texas. Together, Bob and Betty Lou had their daughter, Mary. Bob worked at Barnhart Manufacturing and Supply. His next job was with American Standard Plumbing Supply. Those jobs gave him the skills necessary to open his own business, Jim S. Fritts Insulation Company in 1967, which remained open until his retirement in 2007.
After moving to Houston, Bob joined St. Philips United Methodist Church where he was a Trustee and Lead Usher for many years. He was also a 32 nd Degree Mason (Gray Lodge-Houston) and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was formerly active in Arabia Shrine Temple (Houston) and a member of the Motor Corps.
Bob enjoyed many hobbies but his passions were: fishing, camping, traveling, spending time with family, and making new friends.
On December 1, 2011 Bob and Betty Lou moved to Georgetown, Texas. He was a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Bob thoroughly enjoyed being close to his family. He peacefully passed away on February 6, 2017 surrounded by family members. He was 90 years old.
To cherish his memory, Bob leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou Fritts; children: Cheryl Fritts Ray, Raymond Fritts and wife Cristina, Ray Atkins Jr., and Mary Schulz and husband Stefan; grandchildren: Nova Fritts, Ross Brookshire and wife Nicole, Jason Fritts, Jeffrey Ray, Regina Fritts, Hanna Atkins, Trey Atkins, Kayla Schulz, Hayden Schulz, and Georgia Fritts; great-grandchildren: David Fritts, Zachary Jaber, Aidan Atkins and Preston Fritts; sister, Mary Baker; sister-in-law, Gaye Fritts; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Dolly Fritts; son, Robert Fritts; brother, Jack Fritts; sisters: Doris Collier and Betty Fletcher.
Honored to serve as pallbearers include: Raymond Fritts, Ray Atkins, Jr., Stefan Schulz, Ross Brookshire, Jeffrey Ray, Jason Fritts, Trey Atkins, and Hayden Schulz.
A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Ramsey Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them for the Reception, in the Reception Hall at Ramsey Funeral Home, following the funeral service. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park with Military Honors presented by the United States Navy. 4219 Park Road 4 S, Burnet, Texas 78611.
