With a mix of sorrow and gentle relief, we announce the passing of Jerald “Jerry” Wayne Huckaby, 79, of Georgetown, TX, on August 11, 2026. Jerry fought epilepsy, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, blood clots, and glaucoma – and nearly managed to beat them all. The cancer returned, and he was given a few months. He lived much longer, which surprised his doctors but not those who knew him. His family was with him the whole way.

Jerry was born in 1947 in Lynwood, CA, to James and Virginia Huckaby. He was a star athlete at his high school, setting records in track and tearing it up on the basketball court. After graduating, he spent his time surfing in southern California, then served in the Navy. Soon after, he met Gale, his wife of the past 53 years. The two of them made their way up to Washington State where they lived for more than 20 years while raising two boys. Jerry spent his career as an engineer and, after early retirement, moved to the hill country town of Leakey, TX, where he and Gale lived for the past twenty-five years before recently settling in Georgetown, TX.

Jerry’s infectious sense of humor made him the most genuine and likable character you’ve ever met. He was also an incredible father, loving husband, and loyal friend to all of us that were blessed enough to have known him. He could eat his weight in ice cream on any given day, enjoyed travel – especially the beach, and he loved the Lord.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Gale Huckaby, of Georgetown, TX; his son, Kelly (Tricia) Huckaby, of Lusaka, Zambia; his son, Casey (Michelle) Huckaby, of Austin, TX; and his five grandchildren, Ethel, Lucas, Mark, Joy, and Manny.

The family will hold a private celebration of Jerry’s life.
