Obituary

Jean Rosemary Burczak, a Georgetown resident, passed away in her home at the age of 88 on Tuesday, April 21. Her husband, daughter, and grandchildren were with her as she was reunited with her parents and siblings in heaven.

Jean, also affectionately known as Jeanie, or Georgie, was born on Sept 27, 1937 in Inglewood, Queensland, Australia to Colin and Eva Gordon. The oldest of four children, she was raised by wonderful parents who always found ways to make her life rich, even though they were struggling during The Depression. Life was very hard at times; Jean’s youngest sister was killed in a bicycle accident at age 8, and her brother (the youngest) was stillborn. But through all trials, Jean grew to be a happy, kind, joyful, and beautiful young woman with a deep love for her family. After graduating from Morisset Central School, Jean attended the British Institute of Engineering Technology in London, England, where she earned her Degree Amiet in accounting. Jean returned to Australia after graduation, and was hired by Ocean Systems. A gifted and hard-working accountant, she was startled one day when her new manager surprised her with an impromptu greeting and a hug. That was how she met her soon to be husband and love of her life, Boguslaw Burczak. Together they created a successful business and traveled the world with their daughter, Venessa, until finally settling down in Texas. Here they continued to work together, creating several businesses and taking on many adventures until retiring in Georgetown.

Jean was an angel on earth and a friend to everyone she met. Her softspoken voice carried kindness and wisdom. Wherever there was a need, she never hesitated to cook, bake, do whatever manual work, or whatever was needed. Most of all she provided love and support, a steady presence in every situation, and always with a kind smile. She carried herself with a quiet strength and she was brave. Her love for others was always stronger than anything else. And, her generous, humble spirit was backed with intention and a steadfast drive to help others. To know her was a privilege and a joy, and there will never be anyone else like her. She was truly beautiful inside and out, and far beyond extraordinary.

Jean was greeted in heaven by her loving parents, Colin and Eva Gordon; siblings Howard, Helen, and Glenda and husband Robert. She is survived by her husband, Boguslaw Burczak; her daughter Venessa and husband Richard Barnard III; her grandchildren, Bridgette Barnard and Richard Barnard IV; and her nieces in Australia, Zanthe, Selina, and Olivia. Some of Jean’s ashes will remain with Venessa’s family in Texas, and some will return to her family in Australia. The majority will remain with her husband, Bob, until the time of his passing; after which both of their ashes will be taken to the Burczak family gravesite in Drawsko Pomorskie, Poland, so they will be together forever.
