James Thomas
Shanklin Iii
January 18, 1950 – June 22, 2024
James T. Shanklin III, age 74, of Georgetown, Texas, in the presence of his family, gained his wings and entrance into Heaven on June 22, 2024, after a long, wonderful, and blessed life.
He was born on January 18, 1950, in Taylor, Texas, to James T. Shanklin II and Tommie Shanklin. His parents, Rev. James Shanklin, Tommie L. Shanklin, and brother Melvin Dixon, preceded him in paradise.
James graduated from Georgetown High School shortly after he enlisted in the Air Force. He retired after 24 years of service. After his service, he became an insurance broker and the owner of The Shanklin Health Insurance Agency, serving customers for 30 years.
He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Riggins on September 19, 1970. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Elizabeth Shanklin of 53 years, his son Demond Shanklin (wife Anitra), and foster son, Shavine Mills (wife Stephanie); sisters: Homerzell Guerra of Georgetown, Lessie Luster of Midland, and Geraldine Hines (husband Walter) of Cedar Park. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Dajuan (fiancée, Sydney), Darian, Jaden, Noah Shanklin; Shavine Jr., Shavine III, Divine, Akio Mills; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was a lifelong member of Calvary's Hill (Gay Hill) Baptist Church, where he was baptized at a young age and was a choir member. He was active with the youth ministry before his military service. James mentored young youth at Hampton BMX track for many of his military years at Langley Air Force Base. He volunteered as Flag judge and line judge during the BMX races. He traveled a vast territory around the United States, taking his sons to compete in BMX races. James enjoyed spending time with family and going fishing.
The family is comforted in knowing that he transitioned peacefully and is honored to continue his legacy.
