Obituary

James Ray “Jim” Caskey, 85, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jim built a life rooted in faith, love for his family, and a determination that carried him from humble beginnings to a lasting legacy throughout Central Texas.

Born August 29, 1941, in Winters, Texas, Jim grew up alongside his only brother, John Wayne Caskey. The hardships of his early years helped shape his independence, perseverance, and strong work ethic. His grandmother, Ollie, and his beloved mother, Venita, were especially dear to him.

After graduating from Winters High School in 1959, Jim set out to pursue an education and build a better future. He hitchhiked from West Texas to Austin, where he attended the University of Texas and earned his degree from McCombs School of Business. That journey reflected the courage and ambition he would bring to the opportunities ahead. Jim also served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War era.

In 1970, Jim married Elaine Ferguson, the love of his life, in Austin, Texas. Together, they shared more than 56 years of marriage and built a family that grew to include children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

After moving to Georgetown in 1971, Jim purchased his first lot for $900 and sold his first house for $12,000. From that modest beginning, he became a well-known and successful homebuilder and developer, building more than 2,000 homes throughout Pflugerville, Jollyville, Round Rock, and the Georgetown area. His vision and hard work helped shape communities and created places where generations of families would make their homes.

Jim’s involvement in the Georgetown business community extended beyond homebuilding. In 1983, he served among the original directors of Georgetown National Bank. His business ventures, including Caskey Real Estate, helped lay the foundation for generations to come.

Larger than life, Jim had a big heart, a dry sense of humor, and a gift for turning business associates into friends and ordinary moments into great stories. He enjoyed golfing and bird hunting, especially the competition, camaraderie, and time spent with dear friends.

Jim was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, where he served as a deacon. His faith and church community were meaningful parts of his life, making it especially fitting that those who loved him will gather there to celebrate his life.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Caskey; his children, Michael Caskey and wife Jennifer, Michelle Graham and husband Mark, and Angie Caskey Nations and husband Scott; his grandchildren, Caitlynn, Tripp, Kennedy, Ella, Walker, and Evie; and his three great-grandchildren, Addison, Josie, and Wacey.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, James Davis Graham, who passed away at just six months old.

Jim took pride in the homes and communities he built, but his greatest legacy lives on in the family he loved and in the lessons, laughter, and memories carried forward by those who knew him best.
