Obituary

Jagdish Lal Verma (affectionately known as “Jay”), born on January 1, 1947, in Pind Bal, District Jalandhar, Punjab, India, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Dad was the beloved son of Chaman Lal Verma and Ram Pyari Verma. A man of remarkable determination and vision. Standing 5’10”, Jay was proud of his Dhunna Kshatriya Rajput lineage, a heritage he honored throughout his life. This heritage is reflected in the courage and grace with which he faced his final challenges.

Jay was the first person from Bal village to earn a Master’s degree, an achievement that reflected both his intellect and perseverance. In March 1976 he moved to the United Kingdom with just £3 to his name, famously spending £1.50 on the airplane on a pair of headphones and the rest on a beer. He didn’t let his ego take the better of him being an educated man, and in his early days in the UK, he worked in a foundry making automobile clutch plates, embodying a strong work ethic and resilience to support the family and make a better life for all.

Through persistence and determination, he went on to establish a well-respected jewelry business, Sai Jewellers in Slough, UK. After retirement, he moved to the United States, where he settled with his eldest son.

Dad will be remembered for his generous heart, caring nature, and deep spiritual devotion. His faith guided him throughout his life, and he carried himself with unwavering strength, compassion, and dignity.

Dad leaves behind his loving wife, Anita Verma; his eldest son Ajay, daughter-in-law Preeti, and grandchildren Varun and Vinay; as well as his younger son Sanjay, daughter-in-law Jyoti, and their children Esha and Raúl in the UK. His dogs, Duke, Obi, and Luke. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in seeing them grow across generations, supporting his grandchildren in their studies and encouraging them to persevere through life’s challenges. He emphasized that material wealth is temporary, reminding his children that nothing from this life accompanies us in the next, often citing the Bhagwad Gita.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a no-kill animal sanctuary or animal rescue of your choice. Dad deeply loved animals, from his cows in India, his childhood dog, even rescuing a baby deer once in Texas. Here are some dog charities in the UK and the USA for you to consider.

The family invites you to stand with them as he completes his journey with Ram’s Naam. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

🙏 Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti! 🙏
