Jackie attended Kent State University where she met her husband of 57 years, Joe Brawner. They married in 1956 and moved to Euclid, Ohio. They welcomed their first child, Joseph, in 1957, followed by their first daughter, Julia in 1960. Their second daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1968 while living in Toledo.
Jackie and Joe moved several times throughout their married life, making friends in each new location. After their move to Painesville, Ohio, Jackie returned to Kent State to complete her degree in education.

Several years after Joe Sr.'s death, Jackie moved to the Wesleyan retirement community. She made many new friends and kept in contact with her lifelong friends. She enjoyed living close to both of her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
