Obituary

Jack Davidson was born in the Bronx, N. Y. hospital on July 18, 1929.  He weighed 3 lbs. and 13 oz. and spent his first 6 weeks in the hospital.  He grew up in a happy way, especially with the love and care of his grandmother, Sadie, and with a large family surrounding him.  He had some wonderful memories of his life in the Bronx with many family gatherings and sharing happy events.

When Jack was 12 years old, the family moved to Houston, Texas where his father had a sister and brother.  When Jack left New York, his friends told him he better be careful because there were cowboys and Indians in Texas.  When he got off the train, he was disappointed because he didn't see them.  His father opened a grocery store and for 3 years, the family lived in a house behind the store.  Jack was put to work immediately and at a very young age, he learned to be a butcher and wait on customers.  Consequently, he became mature at a very young age.  Being Jewish, he wanted to meet other kids who were of the same faith.  He would take a bus across town and come home late, but even though he lived in a rough neighborhood, he was well protected by the people who knew him.  He had a lot of responsibility as he had to work after school and on the weekend.  When he started high school, his parents moved across town and he then had a happy and good social life.  Jack graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1947 and went to work full time in the grocery store.

When Jack met Salyne, he was 18 and she was 16.  After awhile they became a couple and Jack proposed and Salyne accepted and they were married on January 22, 1950.  When Jack was 21, he was recruited by Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. and he went to work with them.  Jack was always a hard worker at anything he undertook.  He won many awards and trips with Met and later with Time Insurance Co. and enjoyed success in the business world.  Life was good and even better when Mark and Lauren came into his life.  After about 20 years in the insurance field, Jack decided he would like to try some other ventures, but he eventually went back to insurance.  He bought a small independent agency, which he built up and made quite successful.  He remained in the business until he retired in 1984.

Jack loved being retired, especially in Sun City.  Jack was a very happy and optimistic person to the end of his life.  He always had a smile and through his illnesses, he was a brave and courageous man.  His grandchildren and great-grandson were special to him.  He loved to tell jokes and especially stories of his life, and he loved people.  Jack would stop and talk to complete strangers and they always responded to him.  Jack enjoyed many things. When he was 50, he ran a full marathon in Louisiana.  He loved biking 20 miles 3 times a week,  fishing, going to the symphony, plays, dance, reading and especially traveling.  He and Salyne traveled the world.  Jack's being on this earth made it a better place to live and he will be greatly missed.  Rest in peace, my love.
