Obituary

Herman Stroud passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Georgetown, Texas, on October 6, 2025. He was 81 years old. Even though he was slowed down by heart problems in recent years, Herman remained active until the end, enjoying time with family and friends and chasing after his grandchildren.

Herman's journey started with his birth in Modesto, California, in 1944. He lived in Waterford, California, until he graduated from Oakdale High School in 1962. He honorably served in the Army from March 1967 to January 1969, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his service to his country concluded, he returned to Modesto and embarked on a career at E&J Gallo Winery as a journeyman machinist for 35 years until his retirement at 55 years of age. Some of his best friends and greatest stories came from these many years working in Gallo's machine shop.

Herman was a kind and easy-going man who made friends easily. His sense of humor would put smiles on people's faces and enliven every conversation. His life was full of friends, loving family, and great neighbors in Turlock where he lived for 38 years before relocating to Texas to be near his son and his family. Herman loved the great outdoors and particularly loved to fish and hunt (although the wildlife got increasingly lucky as he aged). He gained this passion for the outdoors during his youth, spending much time in nature with his own father, Charlie, and he instilled this passion in his beloved son, Scott, with their many fishing trips and their annual hunting trip to Highland Lakes in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Herman was still finding ways to get his grandchildren excited about camping, boating, and the outdoors even in his final weeks.

Herman is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra, his son, Scott, his daughter-in-law, Talia, his grandkids, Clara and Connor, his siblings, Chuck, Lola, Norma, and Delois. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will surely miss him.

The sum of one's life lies in the lasting connections made with others. Herman lived a life filled with love, family, and friends, and his absence will be felt by many.

A remembrance of Herman's life will be held at 1716 Anita Court in Modesto, California on November 15, 2025. Friends and family are welcome to stop by anytime between 1 P.M. and 4 P.M.
