Helen Ruby Wenthe, 87, passed away on February 24, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 2, 1938, in Giddings, Texas to Paul and Louise Zoch Medack. She was one of 9 children.
Helen graduated from high school in Giddings, Texas, and continued her education at Concordia Junior College in Austin, Texas, and Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois, were she earned her Parochial Lutheran Teacher Diploma. She was a Lutheran School Teacher for 39 years at many different schools including Bethany Lutheran in Houston, Texas, Holy Cross Lutheran in Kerrville, Texas, St. Matthews Lutheran in Westfield, Texas, and St. Paul Lutheran in Austin, Texas. Helen substitute taught for Zion Lutheran in Walburg for ten years during her retirement.
Helen met William Dean Wenthe Sr., a Lutheran School teacher at Immanuel Lutheran in Houston, Texas. They were married on June 5, 1964. The couple had two children, William Wenthe Jr. and Bethany Wenthe Thoresen.
She taught in Lutheran Schools for many years, retiring from St. Paul Lutheran, Austin Texas. William and Helen moved to Walburg after retirement to enjoy the small town living. They were avid supporters of the University of Texas Football, Lady Basketball, and Baseball. They were season ticket holders for all three for many years. Helen and Bill loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, China, and the United States.
Helen is survived by her son, William Wenthe Jr. and wife Tracy, of San Antonio, Texas with children David Wenthe, Seth Wenthe, and Leah Wenthe; daughter, Bethany Thoresen and husband Ken, of Kapa'au, Hawaii; her sister Viola Sherk; and sisters-in-law Barbara Meitler, Marilyn Wenthe, Wilda Wenthe, and Marilou Wenthe; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Paul Medack (Father), Louise Medack (Mother), William Wenthe Sr. (Spouse), Esther Lamp (Sister), Elsie Powell (Sister), Ludwig Medack (Brother), Louise Moeller (Sister), Paul Medack (Brother), Alice Aalund (Sister), Hattie Mitschke (Sister).
Memorial donations can be made in Helen's name to Zion Lutheran Church, School Scholarship Fund, "Pam Hight Scholarship Fund" to help families who need financial assistance to attend Zion Lutheran School, Walburg, Texas.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10th, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, 6101 FM 1105, Georgetown, TX. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Wenthe will be laid to rest at Zion Lutheran Cemetery following the services.
