In Loving Memory of Gregory Alan Coppage Sr.

A service will be held for (former SGT) Minister Gregory Alan Coppage Sr., of Georgetown, TX, at 2 p.m. Saturday March 19th in Georgetown. TX.

Gregory Coppage, also known as Greg, was born July 26, 1956, in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, to the late Rev. (retired SFC) Eddie B. Jr. and Clara K. McLaughlin Coppage. He died on March 8, 2016.  Gregory professed a hope in Christ at a young age, and began his Christian journey at the Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Killeen, TX under the pastoral care of the late Rev. R.A. Abercrombie. As the child of a Preacher/Pastor (PK), and a church musician (pianist/organist), he grew up singing in the church; as well as singing often with his family: "the Coppage Family". He loved singing as a child; and throughout his adulthood: singing with several of the church music ministries of his membership - including young adult and senior choirs; as well as Brotherhood Choruses. Greg was never shy about singing God's praises in his tenor voice, as only he could; often as a lead soloist.  He was a proud "Roo" (Killeen Kangaroos), 1974 graduate of Killeen High School, Killeen, TX. He served with distinction in KHS' Junior ROTC program, which greatly influenced his decision to make the military his career. Upon graduation from high school, Greg attended Bishop College in Dallas, TX; as well as Central Texas College in Killeen. Greg was also an Army brat and was educated in both Germany and Italy. He loved joking around and pulling pranks - learning early, that 'laughter is good for the soul'. He also loved playing basketball, family bowling, and family Monopoly. After his sons were born and older, he was so proud attending sports games and track meets that they competed in. Greg met and married Gloria Jean Arthur in 1979, and they were blessed with three sons born to their union. They later divorced. He proudly joined and served in the U.S. Army from 1980 through 1991, being stationed in Germany, Colorado Springs, CO, Fort Polk, LA, and other Army training bases during his career.

Greg acknowledged his call to the preaching ministry, and enjoyed reaching out to people as ministry, while affiliated with several local area churches and members. This occurred until his health declined. Gregory was always friendly and approachable. He would smile and converse with anyone one no matter where he was or who they were. Family, friends and acquaintances alike knew that he would talk about or share the goodness of His God and His faithfulness to him; and would encourage others to seek God and depend on Him. If anyone came to him and was in any need, he would do everything in his power to help - regardless of the need - or of his available resources. He was always praying for others and even shared prayer requests with other prayer warriors.  Even during his illnesses or when he was in pain, even when he was not having his best physical day - Greg never complained. His concern and compassion for others, along with his love for his children and family, was always first foremost on his mind and in his heart. Whenever you saw him - coming or going, he displayed that he was extremely proud of his military service to and for his country: wearing his Desert Storm cap.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents.
