Obituary

R. Gordon Baker, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on June 19, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, he led a remarkable life full of love, laughter, and passion.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Cynthia; his cherished daughters, Teri and Amanda; and his loving sons-in-law, Eric and Trent. His greatest joy in recent years was being "Papa" to his two adored granddaughters, Athena and Sloane. He also leaves behind his brothers, Clifford and Stephen, and his sister, Sharon.

A brilliant legal mind, Gordon, began his career in 1977 as a deputy attorney general for the State of California's Criminal Division. He later joined the prestigious Stark Firm before embarking on a successful journey as the founder and owner of his own estate planning and taxation law firm, which he ran for the past 29 years. His integrity and expertise earned him the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

For most of his adult life, Gordon called Martinez, California, home. In early 2024, he and Cindy relocated to Georgetown, Texas, to be closer to their grandchildren, a move that brought him immense happiness.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gordon was a man of many passions. A connoisseur of fine scotch and wine, he was also a master beer brewer who loved sharing his creations with family and friends. His talent for grilling made every gathering a feast, and his love of the sea led to many happy hours spent sailing. He was a voracious reader, particularly of cookbooks, science fiction, fantasy and historical fiction, with a deep appreciation for the Hornblower series by C.S. Forester and The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

His family remembers him as a man with an amazing sense of humor with a twinkle in his eye and a natural storyteller who captivated every audience. He was brilliant, yet humble, and he embraced life with a true zest for living. Above all, Gordon was a family man whose greatest joy was spending time with his loved ones, whether on long walks with Cindy or surrounded by the laughter of his grandchildren.

Leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and unforgettable memories, Gordon will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , causes close to his heart.
