George Thomas Farmos
August 9, 1945 – February 12, 2026
George Thomas Farmos, 80, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 12, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on August 9, 1945, in Kolta, Czechoslovakia. Fleeing an oppressive communist regime in 1969, he was determined to build a life of freedom in the United States. After arriving on April 1, 1970, under political asylum, he fully embraced his adopted country's values and became a proud American citizen on April 21, 1981. He was a 48-year resident of the San Francisco East Bay before relocating to Georgetown, Texas, in 2021.
George was known for his immense dedication to his family both in the United States and in Europe, as well as his bodybuilder's physique, endearing sense of humor, incredible stories, and vast creativity. Influenced by his grandfather, Bela, he had a lifelong interest in mechanics and engineering and was recognized for his ingenuity, including bicycle gear patents under his name.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 47 years, Grace (Murdock) Farmos; his loving children: Juraj Farmos (Monika) of Luzianky, Slovakia; David Farmos of Tulsa, OK; Ilona McDermott (Sean) of Alameda, CA; Hannah Hanrahan (David) of Leander, TX; Rebecca Almond (Sean) of Georgetown, TX; Benjamin Farmos of Georgetown, TX; Lisa Farmos of Chicago, IL; and Jacob Farmos (Estephany) of Livermore, CA; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Barbora Farmos, Stella Hanrahan, Tyler McDermott, Pierce Hanrahan, Aurora Farmos, Skye Almond, and Aiden Almond; his dear sister, Katarina Kosova of Sala, Slovakia; as well as his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and Peter Bukovinszky, Robert Bukovinszky, and Andrea Byrd, whose family shares a lifelong bond with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Istvan and Ernestina Farmos; his adored grandparents; his brother, Dr. Stefan Farmos; and his in-laws, Barney and Grace Murdock.
