Obituary

George Butler, 87, of Georgetown Texas, went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2026. Now Heaven is a little rowdier and a lot more Irish.

Born in 1939, George, a Servant of Christ, great-grandfather, grandfather, father and husband of 64 years to his wife, Wanda. Married in 1962 after a whirl wind ten-day courtship or challenge depending on who is telling the story. Talk about love at first sight! They built and raised their family in Oregon and Idaho, before settling down in Texas

George was born in Chicago Illinois and went to school in the Chicago area. After high school he joined the Navy, enabling him to see countries all over the Pacific Theatre. He loved his time in the Navy for the opportunity it gave him to meet people of all walks of life both here and overseas. He enjoyed being in sales during his many working years. Everyone remembers George as a gregarious man who loved people. He was a very intelligent conversationalist and had a great sense of humor.

When asked he would tell you the best day of his life was the day he met Christ. He was a devout Christian who took joy in reading his Bible. George desired to see people brought into the knowledge of his Lord. He was an avid reader, and took up photography as a hobby after his stint in the US Navy doing aerial photography.

George is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Frances Butler and four siblings, Daniel Butler, Virgina Trongale, Jeanette Butler, and Joseph Butler. George is survived by his wife Wanda, his daughters Angela Thompson (Percy), Melissa Butler, Cynthia Falgout (Glynn), and Carolyn Garcia. He was very proud of his grandchildren Jeremy, Rachael, Rebekah, Manny, Megan, and Merissa, and his great-grandchildren Liam and Ivy Grace. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday July 16, 2026 at Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Dr, Georgetown, Texas, with Minister Steve Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas.

But those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31
