It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Marcum on April 4, 2024 at the age of 82. Born on May 2, 1941 he was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Those who knew Gary will remember him as a man of faith with a contagious spirit. He was indeed a joy to be around, and his absence will be deeply felt.

Gary is survived by his wife, Melissa Marcum, his children, Marty Marcum, Jason Marcum and Kary Marcum. His sisters, Connie Carmack and Jan Bresson, also survive him. Gary was grandfather to Katie Laux, Leighanne Marcum, Savannah Marcum, and Amber Palmer. He was predeceased by his mother Helen Hays, father Jerry Marcum, step-father Delbert Hays, son Gary Marcum Jr and daughter Shelly Marcum.

During his four decades as an owner of an optical business, he found fulfillment in helping others see more clearly. A visionary at heart, Gary loved to dream and found satisfaction in bringing his ideas to life - both through business and home improvement projects. He was a natural teacher who loved sharing the knowledge he gained through his own life experiences. Gary had a knack for storytelling, often using humor to bring laughter to those around him. He was accomplished at ping pong, basketball, and billiards, earning state titles in his younger years and enjoying billiards league play in his later years.

A memorial service will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on April 12, 2024.  Following the memorial service, a reception to celebrate Gary's life will take place at CrossWalk Church on April 12, 2024, at 4:00 PM. We encourage all who knew and loved Gary to join us in honoring his memory.

As we bid farewell, we take comfort in the assurance of his faith and the many lessons he left behind.  His memory will be cherished, and his legacy will live on through those that were fortunate enough to have known him.
