Gail Karen Cotteleer, a woman who could out-bowl, out-pickleball, and out-cheat anyone at Mexican Train Dominoes (all while having something sweet for bedtime), left us on June 4, 2026, in Georgetown, TX. Born on February 5, 1941, in the windy city of Chicago, IL, Gail had a life full of charm, adventure, and an astonishing ability to misnavigate—skills she generously passed down to her daughters.

Gail’s life began its academic journey at Northern Illinois University where she majored in Physical Education, graduating in 1963. She then launched her career as a physical education teacher in Norman, OK, where she earned a reputation not just for teaching kids to sweat, but also as a highly regarded golf instructor. Indeed, she was so good at golf that her students often asked if she had ever actually played the game. The answer? With comedic grace, she surely had, although her talents were no doubt often misjudged, much like her legendary sense of direction.

After trading in lesson plans for playdates, Gail dedicated herself to her family and friends with fierce love, unwavering stability, and a devotion that could make even the toughest trials seem like a walk in the park. As the unshakable matriarch, she set the bar high—and not just for emotional support. She was meticulously organized to the point of bragging about having her Christmas cards purchased, addressed, and a draft letter all ready by mid-summer. If only everyone could plan ahead like that; she’s probably giggling somewhere knowing most of us can’t plan past lunchtime.

Gail’s vibrant and comedic personality was as infectious as her smile, lighting up any room she entered. Whether she was hustling in the pool hall, chatting over a glass of wine with her monthly group, or dominating a board game while occasionally bending the rules, Gail was always putting family and friends first. And speaking of family, she was immensely proud of raising her own, cherishing every success and moment along the way.

Her adventures weren’t limited to home, either. Gail had an impressive wanderlust streak, ticking off destinations including Italy, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Monte Carlo, France, Spain, and England. She even went on a trans-Atlantic cruise, a Rhine river cruise, an Alaskan cruise, and more—proving she could navigate oceans better than she could highways.

Gail is survived by her daughters, Karen Swaney (Mike Dean) and Lynn Tucker (Adrian); her grandchildren Grant and Gavin Tucker, David Cotteleer, and Tracy Swaney; and her great-grandchildren Desiree, Madison, and Olivia. Her spirit lives on through them, along with the memories of her late son, Kevin Cotteleer; her father Fred Mockros; mother Myrtle Mockros; and brother Lyle Mockros.

Though Gail has moved on from the physical world, it’s certain she’s already organizing the celestial Christmas cards, winning cosmic bowling leagues, and probably still cheating at Mexican Train—just for fun, of course. She set the bar high, and those lucky enough to know her will carry her legacy of love, laughter, and just a little bit of mischief forward. Rest well, Gail—your navigation skills may have been questionable, but your direction in life was invariably spot on.
