Fred Hilgeman passed away peacefully in his sleep early on April 4, 2025. He was born on Nov. 3, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to Adele and Elmer Hilgeman.

After high school, he attended Central Methodist University in Fayetteville, Missouri. He met the love of his life at a dance in the fall of 1955. As Dad said, "I went to a dance and met a pretty little cheerleader named Patty Phillips." They married on May 30, 1959,the day before they graduated. They moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where Fred received his PhD at Tulane University. While there, they welcomed the first 2 of 4 children; Susan and Dennis. They then moved to Longview, Texas when Fred began a job with Eastman Kodak. During that time, Karen joined the family. In August of 1967, they moved to Georgetown, Texas where Fred began his 38 year career at Southwestern University. Mike joined the family in Nov. of that same year. Together, Fred and Pat shared almost 60 years of marriage.

They enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, working crossword puzzles, and several activities at church. Fred coached little league and Babe Ruth baseball and umpired for several years. He served on the GISD school board for 3years, the last as president. He served on the
Planning and Zoning Committee for several years, as well. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church since Aug. 1967, serving terms as an
elder, several committees, and many years as a high school Sunday school teacher.

He was preceded in death by wife, Patricia Phillips Hilgeman; his parents; and his in-laws. He is survived by: his sister, Elaine Hilgeman; his daughter, Susan Hilgeman Moreno and her son, Austin and his wife, Jenny; his son, Dennis and his daughter, Courtney and her husband Ryan; his great granddaughter, Zoey; his daughter, Karen, and son Mike; and daughter-in-law Michelle.

Fred loved golf, baseball, fishing, playing bridge, and spending time doing those things with family and friends. He enjoyed a good story or joke, and was eager to share one on several occasions.

There will be a visitation for Fred on Friday, April 11th from 3:00 -6:00 p.m. at 1906 Vine St.

There will be a memorial service on Sat., April 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Georgetown, TX.
