Floyd Edward
Riley
September 18, 1941 – February 8, 2025
Floyd Edward Riley, 83, of Florence, Texas went home to Jesus at 1:45 am on Saturday February 8, 2025, in the arms of his loving wife, closing the circle of their beautiful life together that started with just the two of them 52 years ago.
Floyd was born on September 18, 1941, to parents Delora Barrett and Bankus Riley in Hamilton, Ohio. Floyd had one brother, Milburn Riley. He grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky and moved to Greenville, South Carolina as a teenager where he attended Carolina High School. During his senior year of high school, Floyd joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served from January 28, 1959, until October 15, 1964, achieving the rank of Corporal and earning the Good Conduct Medal and an award for marksmanship. In the Marine Corps, Floyd traveled the Mediterranean and Caribbean and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed spending his free time in the ocean where he became adept at swimming and free diving. His time in the Marine Corps was a source of great pride in his life and he loved nothing more than to tell his stories of that time. Floyd never met a stranger and loved talking and sharing with others. He was liked and respected by many.
On February 13, 1973, in San Marcos, Texas, Floyd met the love of his life, Nancy. After a whirlwind romance, they married on December 29, 1973. On June 24, 1977, they welcomed their first child, Mary Christine, followed by Emily Elizabeth on August 5, 1984, and finally Daniel William on November 19, 1985. The summer of 2016, Nancy and Floyd welcomed Veronica Marie Koch into their home as their daughter. Floyd worked as a Salesman for over 40 years. He was a talented artist who loved to do things with his hands. Floyd and Nancy built a craft business together designing and making clothing, jewelry, wooden toys, shelving, carvings, and furniture. Floyd was most noted for his oil paintings. He brought his love for the outdoors into his art by painting beautiful landscapes. He created custom paintings for friends, family, and associates and was a member of the Georgetown/Williamson County Art Guild. He spent years placing his paintings in a variety of places and businesses.
He loved hunting, fishing, camping, adventures such as white water rafting and canoeing. His favorite times were spent on family vacations. He loved trips to the beach, Disney, Glen Rose, ICE, and anytime the whole family was together. Family was the most important thing in his life, and he lived fully for them. He loved nothing more than watching his children and grandchildren play sports, play in the band or orchestra, sing and act in theater events, whatever they did, he tried very hard to be there to support them. Floyd had a big heart for others and he and his wife chose to use the property they lived on to rescue all types of animals. At one point they had 25 goats rescued from a variety of circumstances such as illness, abandonment, and orphaned newborns that needed to be bottle fed. He helped his wife rescue cats and dogs and welcomed a multitude of pets his children brought home.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents Bankus Riley and Delora Barrett, his aunts Joy, Roberta, and Mary, his cousin Georgetta and granddaughter Isabelle.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Riley, daughter Christi Dresslar, her husband Sef Dresslar, their children Seri, Maya, and William, daughter Emily Bishop, son Daniel Riley, his wife Sarah Riley, their children Scarlette, Piper, and Felicity, daughter Veronica Koch, her children Sara and Sophia, niece Vanessa Herrera, and her child McKenna.
