Fern Louise Abbott Quigley passed away on August 30, 2026, in Georgetown, Texas. She was 86 years old, just one month shy of her 87th birthday.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 67 years, John W. Quigley Jr.; her daughter, Dawn Louise Quigley McClure; her son, John W. Quigley III; her daughter-in-law, Miriam Rocio Quigley; her grandchildren, Tyler Castells and Alana Quigley; and her brothers, Walter J. Abbott and Jack M. Abbott Jr.

Fern was born in Trenton, New Jersey, to Louise S. Abbott and John M. Abbott. At an early age, she moved to Sea Isle City, New Jersey. When she was four years old, she experienced a hurricane that demolished the house in which she was living, and her family moved to Richwood, New Jersey. Growing up, Fern enjoyed 4-H Club, excelled in her studies, played in the school band, and had many friends.

In high school, Fern met John and began a love affair that never ended. They married in 1959 and shared 67 years of marriage together. Fern helped John through college, both emotionally and financially. After college, Fern and John raised their two children in New Jersey and Ohio. Over the years, they made their homes in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, California, and Texas. After raising her family, Fern worked in various positions as a receptionist.

Fern loved to travel, and she and John visited many places together throughout the United States and around the world. Her favorite trip was an East African animal safari—cameras, no guns. She also loved playing board games and card games with family and friends.

When friends were asked to describe Fern, the word used most often was "sweet." It was a simple word that captured so much of who she was and how she treated people around her.

Fern was deeply loved by her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.
