Ferdinand Leon
Tonn
July 10, 1934 – November 2, 2024
Ferdinand Leon Tonn peacefully entered his heavenly home on November 2, 2024 at the age of 90.
Ferd (aka Junior) was born in Weir, Texas, on July 10, 1934 to Ferdinand H. and Olga (Braun) Tonn, both of who predeceased him. He lived in the Georgetown area his entire life after graduating from Jarrell High School. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Walburg. Ferd met the love of his life, LaVerne Domel, at a youth gathering in 1953 and they were married on April 28, 1957, during the weekend of the great Georgetown flood, and shared 67 years of marriage.
After graduation, Ferd worked for Calcasieu Lumber where he honed his skills in woodworking, eventually opening his own business, F.L. Tonn Cabinets, which he operated for over 40 years. He took great pride in his cabinet making, the results of which can be found in many homes, schools, businesses, and churches in the area. He had equal passion for his community and enjoyed the many years he served on the Georgetown City Council.
Ferd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who valued his family and faith deeply. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas for many years where he taught youth Sunday School and served on multiple boards. He always had a smile on his face, never met a stranger, and was kind-hearted, genuine, and respected. Ferd enjoyed fishing, golf, hunting, making barbecue, and family gatherings.
In addition to his parents, Ferd was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Ben and Frieda Domel; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Viola Tonn; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Paul Seaman; and brothers-in-law, James Domel, Delmer Domel, Jerry Domel, and Richard Wolf.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; daughter Lisa Szura and her husband Dan; daughter Lorrie Schultz and her husband Fred; grandchildren Zachary, Braxton and Mackenzie Schultz, Jordan Szura and his wife Ashley, and Garrett Szura; great-grandchild Abigail Szura; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Heidi.
Pallbearers are Zachary Schultz, Jordan Szura, Braxton Schultz, Garrett Szura, Warren Wolf, and Jeff Domel.
If you wish to make a donation in Ferd's name, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America, Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund or charity of choice.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Ferd's caregivers from Heart View Haven, Gentiva Hospice and Cornerstone.
