Eva Mae Golson was born on September 17, 1937 in Leedey, Oklahoma to Clarence and Ernestine Howard. Mae (as she is known by) is survived by children Vicki Cabral, Steven Golson and Tracy Underwood; Granddaughter Rachel Miller and great granddaughter Aleena Gomez and brother Robert Howard.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Golson, son Joe Golson, son in law Robert Cabral and sisters Rita Pennington and Almeta Frische. She spent her childhood between Umbarger and Canyon Texas where she graduated high school in 1956. She worked as a beautician when she met the love of her life, Billy Gene Golson and they married in June of 1958. Their marriage lasted for 59 years until Bill's death in 2018. They started their life together in Canyon,Texas and lived in Corpus Christi from 1967-71 and moved to Georgetown in 1971 where they would live the rest of their lives. They ran Golson Gulf for many years on the corner of Austin and University Ave.
Most people know Mae from when she worked at Piggly Wiggly as head cashier and eventually office manager. She then worked at the Georgetown Candle Factory until her retirement. Mae was a member of the social sorority Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years and enjoyed going to the Twelve O'clock club in Georgetown. She was an avid collector of dolls, glassware and stoneware and enjoyed going antiquing with her family. The weekends were family time as Saturdays were for watching UT football and Sundays for the Dallas Cowboys.The family will fondly remember how she kept her fingers crossed for the whole game. She also loved watching UT women's softball. She maintained many lifelong friends from high school and attended many of her high school reunions up until Covid. She will be remembered as a loving wife, caring and generous mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Breast Cancer Society in Eva Mae's honor. They also ask that any memories or expressions of sympathy be shared on the website
