Obituary

Ernest Kenneth Urban, aged 93, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on June 12, 2026, with his family at his side. Ernest was born on March 20, 1933, in Greenhill, Alabama to Jesse Franklin Urban and Millie Fars Coker Urban. He grew up on his family's farm alongside four brothers.

While growing up on the family farm, he developed a strong work ethic which lasted throughout his life, even into his nineties. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers: Robert Alton Urban, John Edward Urban, James Conrad Urban, and Jimmy Daniel Urban. He graduated from T.M. Rogers High School in Greenhill, Alabama and The University of North Alabama with a chemical engineering degree in 1958.

Upon completing his studies, he began his career at Morton Thiokol in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1958 he met the love of his life and future wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Earlene Wallace Urban, from Killen, Alabama. After getting married in 1960 and relocating to Huntsville, he worked at Northrop Corporation, and Rohm and Haas, finishing his career at IBM with 29 years of service. His work included special projects involving aerospace engineering; while at IBM he was selected to accompany an instrument unit for the Apollo rocket on a barge that traveled from Huntsville to Cape Canaveral Florida. In 1977, his job at IBM led the family to relocate from Huntsville to Endicott, New York. They later moved to Georgetown in 1980.

Ernest was a lifelong fan of University of Alabama football, the Chicago Bears, and the Boston Red Sox. He was fond of outdoor activities, particularly hunting and fishing during his youth in Alabama. He enjoyed gardening and hard work his entire life. He was a man of few words and great character with a dry sense of humor. He was deeply respected and loved by his family, whom he also loved deeply.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Urban; sons Karl Urban (Alison) of Austin, Kyle Urban of Austin; daughter Karen Pharis (Randy) of Fort Worth; grandchildren Lindsay Killeen (Jeff) of Austin, Jake Pharis (Jaci) of Aledo, Jessica Pharis Salge (Christian) of Houston, Curtis Urban of Austin, and Danielle Urban of Brooklyn, NY; great-granddaughters: Parker Pharis, Collins Salge, and Eleanor Killeen; and two sisters-in-law, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Service and arrangements are being handled through Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown.  A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, June 18th at 10am with a brief visitation prior to the service. A private family burial will follow.
