February 13, 1930 – December 12, 2025
ELIZABETH (BETTY) ANN STOCKMAN
1930 - 2025
Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Stockman, age 95, of Georgetown, TX, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital in Round Rock, TX with her daughters and only local granddaughter by her side. In the days prior to her passing, she was joined with out of state loved ones via FaceTime and phone including her two other granddaughters, son and nieces.
A memorial service for Betty will be held on January 13, 2026, at 1 pm at The Delaney which was her place of residence. The Delaney is located at 359 Village Commons Blvd (just off Shell Rd) in Georgetown, TX. All friends and family are invited to attend. Please use the entrance at the back of the building. If you are unable to attend in person, please see the instructions below for viewing the service virtually. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Hettinger, ND to honor her wishes to bury her ashes next to her beloved husband William (Bill) Stockman and allow ND and other family members to say farewell.
Betty was born on February 13, 1930, to Obert and Faye (Jones) Thorson. She was the oldest of three children, outliving both her beloved siblings, sister Davetta Ihle and brother Billy Thorson and their spouses, Pete Ihle and Elgean Thorson, respectively. She was raised on the family farm north of Bucyrus, ND (near Hettinger) and, after skipping a grade, graduated from Bucyrus High School. She then attended business school in Bismarck, ND eventually obtaining a secretarial position with the State. It was in Bismarck that she met her future husband, Bill.
Betty and Bill were married on November 4, 1950, and remained a devoted couple for the next 72 years until Bill's passing on August 22, 2022. Their union produced three children – Linda, Mark and Jane – and 3 granddaughters – Lindsey, Samantha and Sophie. Because of Bill's work, Betty moved around the country living in Maryland, North Dakota, Nebraska, Virginia, New Jersey and ending back in North Dakota and ultimately Texas. Betty was a trooper and enjoyed diving into the community and making close friends in all locations. Betty was overjoyed when Mark and his family moved to Bismarck, ND and she was able to be near him and his two daughters as they grew up. Betty also, to her joy, was part of Sophie's youth and her daughter's lives after they all moved to Texas.
Betty always loved to travel. She and Bill enjoyed trips to China, Australia, New Zealand, various European countries and Turkey where they enjoyed the company of her brother, Billy, and his wife, Elgean, with whom Betty was very close. She went back to China with Linda when Linda adopted her daughter Sophie – wanting Sophie to know her Grandmother as soon as possible. Being the independent woman she was, she also took trips with her close pals – sister-in-law, Elgean, cousin, Sharon, and close friend, Diana. She also enjoyed summer family vacations in North Dakota to her family's farm and Stockman's in Fargo as her children grew up. Later the family participated in a number of Stockman family retreats to Madden's Resort in Minnesota organized by her sister-in-law, Louise Stockman, who was a dear friend as well as family.
She also enjoyed giving back and was a member of PEO, Philanthropic Education Organization (a non-profit organization where women motivate, educate and celebrate women providing grants, scholarships, awards and loans for higher education). She was initiated into PEO in 1983 in ND but was a Charter/Founding Member of Chapter II in Georgetown, established in November 2002.
Her most recent years have been in Independent Living at the Delaney which she loved. Up to her last hospitalization, she was full of life and the independence she demanded. She enjoyed exercising and socializing with activities including bridge, jigsaw puzzles, bingo, "jeopardy", parties/events, "wingo" (bingo with wine) as well as two prayer services. But most of all she enjoyed just visiting with her friends, neighbors and loved ones. Betty had gotten pretty tech savvy in her 90s. After getting an iPad and, later, an iPhone, she learned to order her own groceries during Covid, keep up with her finances and church attendance online, and enjoy FaceTime with her brother and his wife, and others. She also became a whiz at texting with her children, grandchildren, nieces and many friends.
