Obituary

ELFRIEDA WUERZ

Elfrieda Wuerz, age 90, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on November 29, 2025. She was a loving sister, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She was always thoughtful, generous, kind, and caring. An avid learner, she encouraged others to go out and learn and explore life. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Elfrieda was born in 1935 in New York City to Konstantin and Wilhelmina (Herzog) Zugmaier.  She enjoyed nature and outdoor activities. Her favorite childhood memory was spending summers at her aunt and uncle's lakeside cabin.  She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Queen's College and taught 4th grade.

In 1958 she married her best friend's older brother, John Wuerz. Their three children were born in New Jersey and in 1973 the family moved to Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific where she enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, and learning about the Marshallese culture.

In 1976 they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she made lifelong friends. She enjoyed taking care of her family and all the pets her children brought home, including a dog, a stray cat, a litter of kittens and a racoon.

After retirement, Elfrieda and John moved to Punta Gorda, Florida where she enjoyed sailing and taking visitors to see the manatees, the mangroves and watch sunsets at Ponce De Leon Park. In 2017 they moved to Georgetown, Texas.

Elfrieda is survived by her three children, Tom Wuerz of Georgetown, TX; Lisa (Tracy) Davis of Georgetown, TX; and Cindy (Bob) Nealon of Naperville, IL; her grandchildren, Jesse Moore, Michael Davis, Christopher Davis, Amy Nealon Reed, Gwen Nealon, and Matthew Nealon, sister Klara Drossos, sister-in-law Margaret (Bill) Vogl, her cousin Ursula Russ and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Wuerz.
