Obituary

Edward Lee Richards of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, surrounded by his family at the age of 88. He was born on February 16, 1938, in Memphis, Texas to Ted and Eula Richards. He was married to his loving wife of 68 years, Charlotte Ann Richards on June 5, 1956.

Charlotte was the love of his life. They had 67 wonderful years together. He loved and was so proud of his three sons - Kalem, Lee and Josh. He cherished the time he spent with them. He loved his entire family with all his heart. He appreciated everything they did for him. If you went to see him or do anything for him, he would let you know how thankful he was. You could always expect a phone call later that day thanking you again for it.

Ed was a faithful Christian. He read and referred to the Bible often. One of his hobbies was making wooden crosses out of scrap pieces of wood. He loved giving them to anyone that would come over. He would also walk around the square in Georgetown and give them away.

Ed served in law enforcement for 40 years. He began his career with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in 1960. He was a devoted law man and served as a law enforcement officer with integrity and honesty. He was compassionate and always treated people with respect and dignity. Ed had various jobs throughout his career at DPS and retired as a lieutenant in criminal intelligence. He had attended a year long training course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and was trained in criminal behavior and profiles of serial crimes. Ed was a respected profiler and profiled numerous cases throughout Texas.

Ed retired from DPS and was employed as a Criminal Investigation detective at the Williamson County Sheriff's Office (WCSO). Ed was later appointed to the position of Sheriff at the WCSO to serve the remainder of Sheriff Boutwell's term. He later campaigned in an election for Sheriff and was elected by the citizens to serve a four-year term as the Sheriff of Williamson County . He was well respected by his employees. He retired in 2000.

Ed is survived by his three (3) sons; Kalem Richards and wife, Denise of Georgetown, Texas, Lee Richards and wife, Brenda of Liberty Hill, Texas, Josh Richards and wife, Jaquetta of Taylor, Texas. He is also survived by eight (8) grandchildren; Skyler Richards and wife, Katie, Jena Garcia and husband, Bryan, Amy Dittfurth and husband Cade, Morgan Richards, Brandon Leath and wife, Leslie, Lindsey Wellman and husband, Brad, Amanda Brull and husband Chris, Talon Richards and wife, Michaela. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank The Delaney staff, Georgetown Living Home Health, and Concho Heart Hospice, who provided special care to our dad.

Ed will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Charlotte at the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas.
