Earnest Raymond
"Rocky" Leblanc Jr.
August 19, 1953 – April 25, 2024
With great sorrow and endless love, the family of Earnest Raymond "Rocky" LeBlanc Jr. announces his passing on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Rocky was born in Sulphur, Louisiana on August 19, 1953 to loving parents Margaret Luella Brandon LeBlanc and Earnest Raymond LeBlanc Sr. From the beginning of his life and until the very end, Rocky always looked up to his big brother and best friend, William "Bill" Monroe LeBlanc. Rocky was a proud graduate of Sulphur High School and McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1976.
Rocky was drawn early to Texas. He moved to Houston in 1980 to work for Union Oil of California (Unocal) and later Chevron, where he was an invaluable employee and loyal team member. Rocky's career spanned 37 years as a Revenue Accountant and Revenue Analyst, before his retirement in 2017. Rocky took great pride in the work he did and held friendships with many colleagues.
A company trip to Alaska in 2006 served as a career and life milestone. Rocky enjoyed the state's vast wilderness and tried his hand at fly fishing for salmon. Alaska's natural beauty made a lasting impression that never left him.
Rocky married Donna Kristen "Kristy" Cutting on May 23, 1981 and they had two daughters together who were his pride and joy: Kimberly Allison LeBlanc and Karen Marie LeBlanc. Rocky was a devoted father and husband who selflessly put the needs of his family and others above his own. Rocky enjoyed memorable family vacations to Rocky Mountain National Park and Pike's Peak in Colorado, the Florida and Texas coasts, the Ozarks, New Orleans, many Texas State Parks and recently, a "bucket list" trip to New Mexico and Arizona to see the sights of Santa Fe, Sedona and the Grand Canyon.
Rocky grew up playing baseball and later played softball recreationally. As his daughters followed in his footsteps, he found himself a natural as their softball coach. Rocky coached many teams over the years and they won numerous championships. He was loved as a kind-hearted, fair, and caring coach known for his wonderfully wry sense of humor and his knowledge of and appreciation for the game.
Patient problem solver. Ice cream enthusiast. Independent spirit. Table tennis shark. Rocky was good to the core and anchored by spending time with family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, Texas Highways magazines, being near the Gulf coast, cracking a good joke, taking in the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, delighting in the great outdoors, watching sports of all kinds and especially his favorite teams, the LSU Tigers and Houston Astros. Rocky had a lifelong love of music and imparted a deep and abiding love of Classic Rock to his daughters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Donna Kristen "Kristy" LeBlanc of Georgetown, Texas, daughter Kimberly Allison LeBlanc and husband Bryan Poyser of Austin, Texas, daughter Karen Marie LeBlanc and husband Cody Bradley of Georgetown, Texas and grandchildren Hazel Josephine Kennedy Poyser and Ellis Reed Bradley. He is survived by his brother William "Bill" Monroe LeBlanc, nieces Tonya LeBlanc Moak (husband Lane Moak) and Thelice LeBlanc of Sulphur, Louisiana as well as brothers-in-law Greg Cutting and David Cutting (wife Robin Cutting), and nieces Grace and Emma Cutting of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by sister-in-law Mary Lucia Tyson LeBlanc, his parents and grandparents.
During his final years, Rocky bravely battled dementia with courage and resilience that exemplified his strength of character. There is relief knowing that as his spirit has departed, he is now at peace and finally free from the grasp of this cruel disease.
His family would like to thank all who provided support and loving care to Rocky. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Those he leaves behind will stand taller, proudly knowing he's watching over us and now fishing from the shores we cannot see along the big pond in the sky.
A celebration of life will occur this summer with details to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rocky's memory to the Alzheimer's Association: http://act.alz.org/goto/TeamRocky
