Earl Delano
Edwards
April 5, 1936 – April 1, 2026
Earl Delano Edwards, lovingly known as “Pepaw” to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, just days before his 90th birthday. He was born on April 5, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Earl spent his early years in Birmingham, Alabama, where he attended Woodlawn High School. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army and in Alabama’s National Guard, from which he was honorably discharged.
He later moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where he began working for the city and then Ashland Chemical. It was there that he met the love of his life, Peggy Louise Edwards. The two were married on June 27, 1964, and shared 61 wonderful years together.
Earl and Peggy eventually made their home in Houston, Texas, where he built a long and respected career as a civil engineer with Turner, Collie, and Braden until his retirement.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy Louise Edwards; his son, David Edwards and wife, Heather; and his daughter, Kay Bradford and husband, Eric. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Aaron Edwards, Nathan Edwards, Noah Edwards, Abby Patterson, Asa Edwards, Evelyn Lavielle, Betsy Bradford, Celeste Bradford, Dixie Bradford, and Ashlyn Morris. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Luke Patterson, Nolan Patterson, Wyatt Morris, and Logan Morris.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jimmy Edwards, Tommy Edwards, Frank Edwards, and Doug Edwards; and his sister, Lois Copus. He is also survived by his brother, Don Edwards, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl loved the simple joys of life. He could often be found fishing, tending the grill, or enjoying an occasional round of golf—where he may have believed a higher score meant a better game. A diehard Auburn Tigers fan, he faithfully cheered them on every chance he got. He gave generously of his time, coaching youth football and baseball in Sheldon Little League, and even spent a season coaching girls’ softball. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Affectionately known as the “Budman,” Earl enjoyed a cold Budweiser and joked that he helped keep the Houston brewery in business. In quieter moments, he found peace sitting on his porch, watching birds and deer gather at the feeders, soaking in the beauty of nature he loved so much.
Earl was known for his toughness—especially with his children, often reminding them, “You’re an Edwards, get tough!” But that same man had a tender heart when it came to his grandchildren. To them, he gave the very best of himself—his time, his love, and his unwavering pride.
Above all, Earl’s legacy is one of strength, love, laughter, and devotion to family. To know him was to love him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling him husband, Dad, Pepaw, Coach and friend.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16th, 2026 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home with the rendering of military honors by the United State Army.
